Words

New pieces from Undercover have started to appear at the few retailers outside of Japan that carry the collection. Elements of luxury are combined with a distinct graphic language to create the high-end punk aesthetic which Jun Takahashi is known for. Haven now have a handful of Spring-Summer '15 items, including T-shirts, hats and some outerwear.

Undercover N6B02 Tote Bag

01

—01. Satin finished nylon.

Words

Jun Takahashi’s Undercover label steadily produces some highly technical but still incredibly straightforward and usable designs for daily life. This collaboration with Porter Yoshida & Co. is one of the most attractive and functional tote bags I have come across. The military inspiration looks particularly nice, while the three exterior cargo pockets make frequently used items that much easier to get to.

Undercover N4903-1 Sweater

—01. 100% wool.

Words

Featuring a boatneck collar, salt and pepper flecked wool and unfinished edges, this casual fall sweater takes reference from the Nineties rock aesthetic that Jun Takahashi is often inspired by. The somewhat sloppy fit suits the style and makes for an appealing and easy to wear garment.

Words

In the wake of all the exposure, after the dust has settled on previous collections, and as we await next season's product at the end of another year, it's the ideal time to consider Gyakusou in a broader context. Alongside some of the iconic imagery created around the brand, David Hellqvist examines a collaboration between Nike and Undercover that has been successful in design, performance, and sales terms ever since its arrival in 2010.

Nike Gyakusou Fall-Winter '13

01. Lunarspider LT+ 3.
02. Outlast knit cap.

Words

Nike's latest Gyakusou collection was released yesterday. The sub-brand has weathered some of the initial trend driven hype and seems to have found its footing within the running landscape, offering highly functional, great looking pieces. This collection is one of the strongest yet; there's a great mix of colour and tonal fabrics, and the footwear has evolved nicely as well.

JohnUNDERCOVER Mohair Sweater

01. Colour blocked dye.
02. Mohair, nylon and wool blend.

Words

It's hard to beat mohair as a winter fabric. On top of actually keeping you warm, nothing says, 'I'm really warm', like yeti length fibers shooting off your body in all directions. Pair that effect with Rothko like colour blocking and you have this amazing piece here.
