Black MA-1 jackets seem to be a particularly popular item at the moment, but I'm not sure I've seen a better version than this one - made by Alpha Industries for Uniform Experiment.

"Uniform Experiment creates the Mil Glove in reference to their fictitious Naval force. Taking inspirations from standard issue military garments, Uniform Experiment utilizes mil spec branding at the top of the gloves. U.E also showcases their attention to detail and functionality in creating touch screen conductive thumb, index, and middle fingertips with subtle colour contrasts."

Hypebeast brings us a preview for an upcoming shoe from Clarks and Uniform Experiment. The classic Wallabees are just slightly re-branded, using the timeless tan, and a nice blue suede. Simple, true to the original and rare - they should sell out quickly.

Uniform Experiment Star Print Shirt

UE Stars Call me crazy (and I'm sure plenty of you will) but I'm loving these shirts from Uniform Experiment. SOPH and Fragment rarely put a foot wrong with the brand but this piece was definitely an experiment. The mixing of bright spring plaids, a star pattern on a button down shirts has disaster written all over it yet somehow the result isn't nearly as bad as it could have been. Instead it's an off-key bit of magic. The white star pattern is a bit subdued thanks to the white in the madras checked shirts. While it's not your 4 time a week sort of shirt, it's a great piece that'd look good simply on it's own over some shorts or poking out from beneath a jacket. It also comes in a short sleeved version. Uniform Experiment Knit Cap

ue-knit-cap-strippedAs spring and summer get closer, I feel the warm days by the water creeping more near. The nautical theme has been pretty strong in the last summer or two, but I think there is still room for more. I don't particularly think this Uniform Experiment cap was made to wear at sea, but navy with white stripes pretty much always reminds me of a sail boat, or at least what you should be wearing on one. Navy and white go well with some khaki, which goes great with some worn in brown or black boat shoes, which are all comfortable and can be worn anywhere. So simple, and it can start with this cap, or this APC sweater, which I'm wishing I bought.

Uniform Experiment Parka

ue-parkaI like blue on blue plaid, and I really like fish tail parkas, so it's not surprising I like this spring jacket from Uniform Experiment. I don't particularly like the price tag of around $750 us however, but the piece looks great. I think the deep blues and pale tones are going to be the way to use blue this spring. The thin red line is also a great accent on this jacket and with blue in general. The jacket is quite subtle for being such a big piece in terms of coverage, with a pattern all over it. I really like when parkas have the waist draw string along with the bottom string, and throw one on the hood for good measure. I am quite sure I am going to pull the trigger on a parka this spring, but I'm between something with this shape and a mountain parka. I'm really leaning towards Engineered Garments parka but time well tell what kind of deal/price/piece comes up.

Uniform Experiment Cotton Blazer

uniform-experimentThe launch of the Uniform Experiment collection has been blogged pretty thoroughly in the last day but I thought I would highlight my favorite piece from the collection I've seen so far. I am really enjoying casual blazers a lot lately and materials like wool and cotton are a big part of that. This piece by Uniform Experiment is a great two button coat in 100% cotton with a washed texture. I like the light spring colors with white buttons quite a bit surprisingly. I think it would go with a lot of spring stuff and I am always a fan of the external pocketing. Although the collection isn't super cheap or hard to find this is definitely one of the best sport coat/blazers I've seen for spring.

Paris Highlights

Foie Gras: I ate it every chance I got. Duck and Goose, it’s the best. I had it raw with salt, fried and sautéed. Only a year ago I had it for the first time and it took some time to fall in love.  I pretty much can’t eat enough now. It’s a little bit harder to find at home and the portions in Paris are definitely more generous. I highly recommend get down if you want to step your food game up. Colette Sale: Sure, a sale a Colette doesn’t sound super exciting, but it was. It was the first time I could try on pieces by Adam Kimmel, Commes des Garcons Thom Browne, Uniform Experiment and a few others. I was in heaven. I tried on everything I could find. Colette’s buying is very select from each designer but they pretty much have the best of the best. It turned out a lot of things were in my size and fit incredibly. Thom Browne and Comme des Garcons in particular were my favorites. Of course they were probably the least affordable. I made one purchase at 50% and left happy. Le Marais: It was my favorite part of town. A beautiful mix of shops, galleries and small cafes. I really love the wood storefronts, big windows and open spaces. I found myself ducking down every side street I could find in hopes of finding a gem. APC, French Trotter, Muji and Tsumori Chisato also make the shopping worth the visit. Some of the other highlights in brief were the abundance of wines, especially from Cotes de Rhone; Gigondas and Vacaras. Also just walking the city, it was dry and sunny, although chilly. Good strolling weather for visiting some beautiful stores.
