I've been enjoying the editorial content produced by New York-based retailer La Garçonne lately. To kickoff the fall season, their latest story, entitled The Waiting Years, highlights some casual transitional pieces from Acne, Issey Miyake, Maison Margiela, Marni, Proenza Schouler and The Row, among others.

iittala Ruutu Vase

01

Image

01. Mouth blown glass.

Words

Recently arrived at Inform Interiors, the Ruutu vase, designed by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, is a new addition to the iittala offering. It comes in a variety of colours and sizes, and while each one appears relatively simple, the elegant shape requires the most experienced glass blowers to produce.

Mohawk Fall-Winter '15 Editorial

Words

Mohawk have created a handful of looks to highlight their Fall-Winter '15 deliveries. Shot in Chinatown by Yumna Al-Arashi, the images have a rather dark aesthetic and feature new items from Acne, OAMC, Dries Van Noten and the LA store's in-house line, Smock.

Ganryu Nylon Bomber

01. Polyester padding.

Words

This season is the first time that the Ganryu line from Comme des Garçons has been made available via Dover Street Market's E-Shop. The collection always features an interesting mix of fabrics and textures, while achieving a nice balance between challenging silhouettes and easy to wear pieces. This nylon bomber falls into the latter category, making it one of my top choices from the brand's latest offering.

Depression Catalogue

Info

94 pages, 18 foldouts
9.5 x 12 inches
Designed by Eric Wrenn
Published by Ramiken Crucible

Words

Last year I saw some photos from an amazing group show entitled Depression, put on at the François Ghebaly Gallery in LA. At the time I didn't know that the exhibition was organised by Ramiken Crucible, so when I saw this catalog for sale on the Lower East Side gallery's website, I was pleasantly surprised. Alongside work from an impressive list of artists including Lucas Blalock and Andra Ursuta, the catalog's accompanying text offers insight into a serious issue that many people find themselves affected by.

Comme des Garçons Homme Plus Diagonal Print Shirt

01

Images

01. 100% polyester.
02. Asymmetric cut.

Words

It's that wonderful time of year when Fall-Winter items from the various Comme des Garçons collections start rolling into shops, and I'm as impressed as ever. Although there are a lot of standouts, this wonky creation is one of the best. It is a truly bizarre construction but, in my opinion, not too costume-like to be unwearable, existing in that rare sweet spot Rei Kawakubo so frequently inhabits.

The influential Japanese magazine, Popeye, celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2016. There aren’t many fashion titles that make it to this landmark, and fewer still that remain relevant to contemporary culture. Over the last decade this wasn’t always the case, but with the addition of current Editor-in-Chief, Takahiro Kinoshita, in 2012, Popeye received a refocus, a redesign and, as a result, a significant renewal. Having previously worked as an editor for Brutus, he brought a wealth of knowledge and a strong vision for the publication’s rebirth when taking over the reins. This eventually lead to Popeye’s reemergence as one of the preeminent men’s fashion monthlies from Japan. We had the opportunity to ask Kinoshita about his relationship with the magazine, as well as delving into what interests him most about the current fashion landscape.

The Crack-Up at Room East

Info

Room East
41 Orchard Street
New York, NY 10002
June 28 – August 15, 2105

Words

One of my favourite galleries in the Lower East Side, Room East, is hosting a group show called The Crack-Up, alongside a solo exhibition downstairs full of amazing and provocative illustrations by the artist Ebecho Muslimova. The former is filled with some fantastic pieces, but Robin Cameron and Dario Guccio steal the show with their respective ceramic and leather creations. The theme of the exhibition revolves around an F. Scott Fitzgerald quote, something you can read more about in an article on Mousse magazine's website linked below. With only a few days left, if you're able to find the time, I highly recommend a visit to the gallery before the show closes.
