Self Edge Los Angeles

Words

Self Edge is one of my favorite stores in North America. They sell a very focused selection of high quality garments to an educated consumer. Kiya is a smart business man, a funny guy and a passionate retailer. I've had the pleasure of spending a little bit of time with him in the last couple years and it's been exciting to see how fast the Self Edge brand has grown. The most recent development is the opening of their Los Angeles location. The new shop features my favorite layout and space of the three and is situated right on North La Brea Avenue. I'm sure the store will be a success as Self Edge already has a strong market in LA, but it should be exciting to see the new products and brands the store brings in.

—01. 127 Sale: written and photographed by Kyle Garner of Sit and Read Furniture.

Words

When I was last in New York I got to spend some time with Kyle Garner, who you might have read about in our spring issue. His shop, Sit and Read Furniture, has been doing some great things in the realm of modest furnishing lately. Between working on his own showroom space and collaborating with Unis, Kyle is continually trying to track down 'new' vintage pieces. At the end of the summer he set off to check out the legendary 127 Sale, so we thought it would be interesting to have him document the trip and what he found; or didn't find...

Engineered Garments Storm Parka

Images

—01. Made in USA.

Words

This fall sees the departure of one of my favorite EG items: the Field Parka. The clean and classic silhouette has come and gone for the time being, but its replacement is taking the season by 'storm'. The new parka features a blanket wool lining, secure fastening systems anywhere you might need them, plenty of pockets and a cotton ripstop shell. Available in both khaki and olive this fall, we decided on the khaki for our shop. The jacket is great value and sure to be one of the season's best outerwear pieces.

Yuketen Fall–Winter

Words

Yuketen have just updated their website with the fall collection and a handful of images from the lookbook. The photographs capture the beauty that is Maine in the winter. Yuki and Ryan make the trip each season to shoot their lookbook in the wilderness, showing the Yuketen products in the environment they're made for. Now also featuring fall garments from Monitaly, my only complaint is that there aren't more of the shots on their website.

A.P.C. Marl Crewnecks

Words

As the A.P.C. collection has slowly evolved over the years, the lightweight knitwear has continued to be a strong point. The palette this fall is just right, the fits are always nice and the brand's general good quality means they're pretty reasonable value. The beige colour is my favorite from this offering and if I wasn't waiting for a similar piece from Margaret Howell, I would be pretty tempted to pick up this sweater immediately.

Fair Warning

Words

First off, we'd like to thank everybody who has bought a copy of Inventory magazine in the last 10 months. The support has been incredible from retailers and individuals alike. We knew it was a bit risky printing a magazine in today's market, but we knew there would at least be a few people out there who might buy it. Now, after two issues, we are nearly sold out of both Issue 01 and 02. I just wanted to let everyone know that we are down to the last boxes and if you have been waiting to buy a specific cover or issue, they won't be around much longer - especially the Margaret (02), Kenny (02) and Yuki (01) covers.

Thanks again for all the support.

Nigel Cabourn 4-Way Rollneck

01

Images

—01. Made in England.

Words

"Originally made using authentic Colonial Wool, woven straight from the sheep to give a coarse and natural handle to the garment. This piece is inspired by the jumper worn by Tom Bourdillion who was famously pictured wearing it inside-out."

This fall's 4-way rollneck sweater is one of the stand out items in one of Nigel's best collections to date. A big part of that is how directly some of the pieces are inspired by his 2003 Ascent collection. This sweater has a great texture and although the wool has a bit of a rough hand, you can tell it will age and wear beautifully. It also happens to be one of the best priced items this season, which is great considering the quality.

Porter Climb Pack

Words

The Porter brand has never stopped impressing me. The variety of styles they produce is unmatched, each one manufactured to the highest possible standards. I've been increasingly attracted to mountaineering inspired bags lately and it's no surprise that Porter have hit the nail on the head with their offering. The Climb Pack is made in Japan from Cordura, comes in a great color combination, and also includes some nice pocket details and leather accents. I've been looking at a lot of similar bags recently, but this one will be tough to beat.
