TAKAHIRO MIYASHITA The Soloist Rib Neck Sweater

01

Image

01. Wool knit.

Words

Haven's Fall-Winter '15 offering from The Soloist is perhaps their best to date. There's plenty to pick from, including some of the more wearable garments – like this rib neck sweater – as well as the affected and intricate pieces the brand is so well-known for. It's hard to go wrong with a black wool raglan sweater, and something so straightforward can still feel interesting and well-designed, making this sweater extremely appealing at this time of year.

Shin Murayama for Takahiro Miyashita The Soloist

01. Mask by Shin Murayama.

Words

Marking his first return to Paris since the final Number (Nine) presentation in 2009, Takahiro Miyashita previewed The Soloist offering for Autumn-Winter '15 over the weekend. In a reference to the colours favoured by John Lennon during the Double Fantasy period, the collection, entitled INTRO., features a strict black and white palette. Seen here as part of select looks, it also includes a series of intricate masks by Shin Murayama, constructed primarily from cowboy boots.

Takahiro Miyashita The Soloist The Jean x.0276

01

Images

—01. 100% Cotton.
—02. Shades of black.

Words

Takahiro Miyashita The Soloist makes a very interesting mix of garments – some wild and somewhat unwearable, while others are very simple and would be easy to mix into your wardrobe. These patchwork jeans fall somewhere in the middle; using vintage scraps, playing with tone and creating a unique shape, the result is a rather distinctive pair of cotton denim pants.

Takahiro Miyashita The Soloist Tunic Shirt

—02. Designed by Takahiro Miyashita.

Words

The last two seasons have found Soloist designer Takahiro Miyashita at his most minimalistic. Whereas past collections were filled end to end with statement makers, he's recently seemed more interested in using small details to flip classics on their head. This is a perfect example of his new approach, a highly wearable shirt with just the right brushstrokes to keep both the wearer and passerby highly intrigued.

Takahiro Miyashita The Soloist New Wave T-Shirt

—01. 100% cotton.

Words

The pocket tee will never go out of style and this one makes an extra statement, in the form of a badge-like 'New Wave' print on the chest – an especially apt reference if you happen to be a fan of bands like Talking Heads and Television.

Sand.W.Man. Hike Boots

01

Images

01. Made in France.
02. Norwegian Welt Construction.

Words

Sand.W.Man. is a collaboration between The Soloist's Takahiro Miyashita and Nonnative's Takayuki Fujii. The two designers have teamed up to create some incredible boots. Two different pairs to be exact, but my choice is the Hike variant. The French cowhide is beautifully aged and waterproofed with pine resin, and the unevenness in the leather treatment looks fantastic.

TAKAHIRO MIYASHITA The SoloIst Pajama Set

01

Image

—01. Silk, cotton and linen blend.

Words

While Takahiro often names his garments 'Pajamas,' anyone who's ever owned one can attest to the fact they hold up quite well outside the bedroom. I suppose it would look normal to sleep in this set, but they would also look great with a jacket over and some boots beneath.

Takahiro Miyashita The Soloist Crusher Hats

01

Image

—01. Available in three colours.

Words

There are some great classic hat makers from England, and some more progressive modern designers, but it can be difficult to find something good in between. These wool Crusher hats by The SoloIst land at just about the right spot for me, and they're surprisingly affordable for the hard to find Japanese label.
