Sierra Designs x Pendleton

Words

We've seen a few of the North West inspired brands make an appearance in the western world now, Crescent Down Works and Mt Rainier Design are quickly becoming the standard, but Sierra Designs still seem just beyond reach most of the time. This version of their classic 60/40 mountain parka is made with Pendleton wool, which accents the exterior green nicely and adds something extra in terms of style and warmth to an already great jacket.

Available at Takanna in Small & Medium

Pendleton Vintage-Fit Rider Shirt

Pendleton 01 Pendleton's array of great woven fabrics and assortment of patterns has made me always like the brand's aesthetic. Like many heritage brands like it though, the clothes just aren't made to fit the way I'd want them to: too big in the shoulders and arm openings and very boxy. They've just addressed that problem though with a new cut of shirt dubiously dubbed 'Vintage Fit'. While the name threw me off at first the new cut is actually a trimmed down cut of shirt that fits really nicely if you're looking for a slimmer more fitted shirt. The Rider Shirt is the classic outdoor shirt made the way they should be with with few details other than simple flap chest pockets. Made from a nice warm Umatilla wool the shirt's construction sturdy and built to last. The navy plaid version is my favourite of the four colourways it comes in now as it adds a bit of vibrancy as a middle layer and looks good with basically every other colour combination. Pendleton Drifter Bag

pendleton-drifter-blackwatchBlackwatch is one of my favorite patterns and Pendleton certainly know how and where to use it. Their Drifter bag is a nice little number that would be ideal for daily travel or a short weekend jump. The simple design works well and has been in the line up in the past. The canvas interior has two pockets, as does the exterior. The nice brown leather is a perfect match for the dark Blackwatch plaid, which is classic USA Pendleton fabric. I would ideally have a jacket, blazer, sweater, tie, shirt and pants in this pattern, but why not start with this bag? It's available through their website at the moment, along with a couple other nice material options.

Crescent Down Works Italian Vest

crescent-down-works-italian-vest Even though they're known mostly for their work with 60/40 cloth around here, Crescent Down Works does hold up to their name with their other pieces. When it comes to their down works, vests are what they're known for and the Italian is my definitely favourite. Of all the versions I've seen of it, this custom one for South Willard might be the best. It's made from a nice medium weight olive tweed wool produced just south of CDW at Pendleton. The flecked wool is a perfect autumnal tone that's well completed with the green ripstop lining. It'd be perfect with a chambray, some chinos, and wool hat. Portland weaves the wool, Seattle makes the vest, blogged in Vancouver and the Pacific Northwest gets paid off of all of that... (well not actually, I just watched this twice in a row) cdw-italian-vest1

Pendleton Western Shirt

1856124-rescaledpic-375x565 This Pendleton shirt is a big double negative for me. I'm a fan of jean jackets and I wear jeans a lot, but I've never really been able to get down with the denim shirt. Western shirts haven't ever been too appealing either. The combination of both in this shirt though, I'm really feeling. The shape of the shoulder stitch is a little smaller and more subtle and the pocket flaps aren't too pointy. The shade of the denim is fantastic nor too marled looking and the simple leather tab on the pocket tops off the detailing. Being tall and lanky is often a challenge fit wise but these fit long so sizing down works out nicely. I'd have no problem wearing denim on denim like this gentleman but I could see it be worn over another BD shirt pretty easily too. At Tres Bien it's got a price that's nice that won't make you think twice. And with that Swedish VAT your wallet stays fat. 1856125-rescaledpic-375x565

Pendleton Blackwatch Tartan Shirt

pendleton-blackwatch-1Pendleton continue to improve their re-appropriated collection for men each season and with their arrival at Tres Bien Shop, the nicely curated selection stands out better than ever. There are a handful of very classic shirts in stock, but none more appealing than the Black watch Fireside shirt. The Blackwatch tartan is one of my favorite plaids in all the land, and this shirt uses it quite nicely. I haven't paid a lot of attention to Pendleton in the last year but I've been liking what I'm seeing more and more. The brand really doesn't have to do much: just make items that fit decently and use their great archive of patterns and wools. That seems to be the formula here and the result is a shirt I'll probably buy. pendleton-blackwatch-2pendleton-blackwatch-3
