Mainland Boots Charles Oxford

Words

Having been produced in New Zealand since 1890, Mainland Boots offer a reliable, well-made alternative to the more popular casual work shoes out there. Rough-out leather and a Vibram 2021 sole is always a desirable combination, but the antique finished welt and cushioned insole add uniqueness and comfort to a staple silhouette.

Nanamica Travel Pants

01

—01. 100% cotton.

Words

These lightweight, relaxed fitting pants lean towards the daring side, stripes normally reserved for the top half, but with sneakers and a T-shirt they'd make for a comfortable outfit that still looks urbane. The unlined 100% cotton also makes them a great alternative to infinitely more bland sweatpants.

Western Mountaineering Flash XR Jacket

Words

The weather hurtling itself against the window probably has a large part to play in the appeal of this particular jacket right now, but considering that freezing cold temperatures and constant snow flurries are set to be a permanent fixture this winter, the more I stare at it, the warmer and more essential it looks. Clean lines, classic styling and goose down? Sign me up.

Needles Rebuild BDU Mods Parka

Words

The Rebuild project by Needles continuously offers interesting and ultimately unique pieces of clothing. While a lot of the items are a little too tricky for my tastes, there's something about the Mods Parka that feels just right. With so much going on, the multiple panels, tones, and fabric variations somehow make more sense on a larger scale, and while I'm probably not ready to pull the trigger yet, I'm sure plenty of others are little more brave with their outerwear choices.

Junya Watanabe MAN Garment Dyed Twill Coat

Words

'Reasonably priced' is an objective statement when it comes to fashion, and especially when it comes to Junya Watanabe. So let's ignore the cost for the moment and concentrate on the details and the design, which, on this piece, are in abundance without being overpowering. Here the details are practical; adjustable cuffs, rear vent, and side entry compartments, while the contrast herringbone fabric on the patch pockets makes for a subtle and wearable take on a traditional Watanabe design cue.

Engineered Garments Lafayette Jacket

Words

Shown here as part of The Bureau's Fall Look series, and alongside the Long Bush Shirt, the Lafayette Jacket is one of a number of new styles introduced by Engineered Garments this season. Perfect for the crisp weather that's just begun to arrive here in New York, this style offers everything Engineered Garments is so well-known for, along with a few nice surprises. While perhaps not for everyone, the elasticated cuffs and drawcord hem are a nice change from more traditionally styled pieces, and the Uniform Serge Wool is a warm but relatively thin fabric choice, that allows for plenty of layering options.
