Porter Yoshida & Co Ltd Force Two-Way Helmet Bag

01

Images

01. Nylon exterior.
02. Quilted ripstop lining.

Words

I’ve always liked the utilitarian nature of helmet bags, especially the updated versions produced by Porter. This one, recently received by The Bureau, is especially nice, incorporating an MA-1-referencing olive and rescue orange colour combination. The exterior is made from military grade nylon, built to stand up to the rigours of daily use, and features an interesting variance in tone between body and pockets.

Brown's Beach Solid Black Chesterfield Coat

01

Images

01. Made in Japan.
02. 73% wool, 27% cotton.

Words

I’ve been following the Japanese reproductions of Brown’s Beach products ever since I tried on one of the vests a few years ago. Anyone who has experienced the brand's signature wool and cotton blended fabric will know there isn’t anything else like it. They've now created a thick black chesterfield coat out of the inimitable material and the results are simply fantastic. This is a piece of outerwear that will last for decades, and remain as appealing as ever season after season.

orSlow Shawl Collar High Density Poplin Coat

01

Images

01. Made in Japan.
02. Light layering.

Words

This season orSlow have expanded their offering to include a variety of new outerwear pieces, one of which is this unlined shawl collar coat, well-suited to layering. Made from durable cotton poplin, it features a double-breasted front, large flap pockets and adjustable cuffs. Having the option to button it right up to the neck and further fasten the collar with a storm flap, make it a great option in chilly weather when the wind picks up.

orSlow Gray US Navy Hat

01

Image

01. Made in Japan.

Words

A classic for decades, the US Navy Hat is still a surprisingly hard item to find with good proportions, in nice fabrics. Those things are obviously subjective, but I do think that orSlow make one of the best options out there. This fall their seasonal staple comes in a very wearable dark gray cotton.

Viberg Black Unicorn Rough Out Hiker Boot

01

Image

01. Full leather lining.

Words

When the Fall-Winter season rolls around I always welcome the appearance of more substantial footwear styles. Viberg collaborations are something I particularly look out for and The Bureau has just received a nice selection of custom models, all of which ring true with Canadian company's hardwearing origins. The Hiker boot, born out of an exchange of patterns with Danner in the 1970s, is one of my longtime favourites and this almost all-black version is especially appealing. Built on a Vibram Gloxi-Cut sole, it features a rough out moose hide upper and gunmetal hardware for something a little more unique, yet no less functional.

The Bureau recently released their latest seasonal lookbook and it features this perfectly understated outfit, which combines a variety of outstanding garments by brands such as Johnbull, Visvim, ts(s) and orSlow. Rebuild by Needles Coach Jacket

01

Image

—01. 50% cotton, 50% polyester.

Words

The last few seasons have seen a real upswing in the popularity of the coach jacket style, but none have stood out as distinctly as this Rebuild by Needles version. Constructed from repurposed army surplus garments, and adorned with chest pockets, button plackets and name badges, it would be pretty tough to confuse this with any of the more overtly bland options available, by obvious comparison of course.
