Visvim Skagway Lo Denim

Words

I know the pricing is prohibitive to many - myself included - but these are a prime example of what Visvim does best - using a classic silhouette and taking it somewhere new; making it the best it can be through considered design and innovation. The combination of grey denim and tonal leopard print on the tongue and heel is a measured touch, unique but not overpowering, making them easy to wear, but a little more interesting than standard cap toe options.

Hong Kong F.I.L. Store Opening

Words

After first landing in Hong Kong several years ago, japanese cult brand Visvim opened its second store in the neighbouring area of Wanchai with a similar minimalist F.I.L. retail concept. The space is beautiful, the masonry work is amazing, and of course the products are decent as well.

Visvim High Water Chinos

Words

Visvim chinos are one of the best items in the collection, season after season. Whether they are the full cut leg, or the high water version, the cotton is incredibly nice and the fit is great. The high water cut is a bit slimmer, and with the stitched cuff, you can even let it out to get some more length out of them if you'd like.

Words

Speaking strictly on the footwear, Visvim's latest offering isn't my favorite. They've moved some of the production to Japan which has resulted in higher prices, along with said higher quality - however beyond the pricing and country of origin, I personally prefer some of the older models more. Looking at the Yucca Moc, I would say the Hockney Folk and Americana Deck were both a little cleaner. The new chukka model looks nice however and uses some great fabrics and colors. All in all, its a solid handful of models from an extensive range, and I still wouldn't mind wearing them.

Always Want: Visvim Virgil

01

Words

Maybe because the spring tones are filling up our shop and our website, the look of these sand suede Virgils just popped out to me again. The Virgils are such a great boot, and I am fortunate enough to have one pair, however, I would gladly trade them for a suede since my are a smooth leather. The light color of these works perfect with these light weight boots, as you can wear them through the spring, summer and fall with ease. Unfortunately the price increases put them beyond reach now, so acquiring a pair feels unlikely to happen any time soon.

Words

"What? I didn't know those were coming out?" That seems to be what I often exclaim when I see new Visvim products releasing, however it's more often than not in their F.I.L. locations. This time Surrender has brought in a couple of Visvim's more classic models; the Serra Hiker and the Keifer. Both models have been around for years and are offered this fall in some clean, sharp looking color options.

F.I.L.

Words

Visvim is without doubt one of the most amazing brands of our time. From the beautiful product to the branding to their unforgettable retail experience, the Japanese label has created something truly unique. Hiroki Nakamura really has an eye for detail far beyond the stitching in a shirt or the leather on his shoes. His vision for his brand is showcased beautifully in these photos of the Kyoto and Tokyo F.I.L. stores. The balance of new, vintage, rugged, slick and the general color palette is perfect. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't partially influenced by Visvim when we created our shop, and I'd also be lying if I said this sort of execution was easy.
