Words

Heller's Cafe has had a large impact on North American brands as one of the leading vintage showrooms in the US. Designers, directors and creatives have been making the trip out to Seattle for years to visit the acclaimed showroom and to get inspired by what Larry has found. More recently, Heller's Cafe have been collaborating with Japan's Warehouse on a number of items to build up what is one of the more interesting vintage inspired collections available. This summer the two brands produced these 'Side Buckle Work Pants' in a special wash for J.Crew. The pants are limited to 18 pairs and will be available at J.Crew in New York as of today.

Warehouse x Heller’s Cafe BD Shirt

Warehouse’s ongoing relationship with vintage company Heller’s Cafe always seems to result in great pieces of vintage reproduction that I’d happily add to my wardrobe. One I’ve been eyeing lately is this deep blue, heavy cotton shirt with printed dots at Blue in Green. The dotted workshirt is a somewhat unique pattern and a nice reference point which I like. The pocket configuration is perfectly simple and I’m always a fan of little details like run-off stitching. The collar seems a bit pointy and long as it’s done up here, but once washed and worn it would be fine.

Look: Earth Tones

Earth Tones Around these parts it's deceivingly nice out. You look out the window and the sun is shining bright and there's blue skies abound, but then you walk outside you get a wake-up call. The air is crisp and cold and I've been caught out with just a shirt on a couple of times and it hasn't been pleasant so I've started doubling up. A warmer wool shirt over a nice simple check shirt creates for a nice contrast and the Warehouse x Free & Easy version in brown is one of my favourite shirts in recent memory. I think it works really well with the cream coloured Cabourn Medical shirt. Throw the down vest on there for some more warmth as well as lightening things up with the tan and yellowy shoulders. The boots, gloves and glasses help tie it all together and add a few more tones which is what this look is all about. This was a look I originally put together for Brennan Woods' series The Aesthete, check out more from various other bloggers here.

Free & Easy x Warehouse Work Shirt

FE x Warehouse Wool Shirt 00 Free & Easy knows a thing or two about workwear, and it's hardly surprising that when they team up with the likes of Warehouse, one of the best vintage reproducers around, they put out amazing products. The most recent of which might be my favourite yet. Based off of a 1940's Big Yank Outerwear shirt, the 2009 edition is fantastic from top to bottom. I'll be the first to admit that brown usually isn't the most appealing colour for tops but the shade and texture of the woven wool is perfect for a fall work shirt. The classic pocket arrangement of one pen and one peaked is complimented by nice light, bordering on lime, green bar tacks that give the brown a bit of life. The black buttons are perfect too. The shirts got a pretty care free free fit (unless you've got long arms like Simon and I) and would pair up great with a tan or olive coloured vest or coat or a combination of both. It comes in navy as well but the brown is much more unique I'd say. — FE x Warehouse Wool Shirt 01FE x Warehouse Wool Shirt 02FE x Warehouse Wool Shirt 03FE x Warehouse Wool Shirt 04

Granted for Warehouse

granted for warehouse 01 This is another piece that could easily fall into the weekend wears category, or perhaps I should start a new one called "made in the city where I live, but only available in Japan". This would of course fit that description as Granted is based on the lower mainland, just south of Vancouver. The Canadian-Japanese owned company have been around for decades now and have recently been pushing a more revitalized product with some beautiful wools and interesting designs. Warehouse have tracked them down and had a couple special make-ups done this fall. The colours in this "Cowichan" sweater are a little unexpected but after a couple looks I've definitely grown to like it. If you're after a Granted knit and maybe something more classic looking - Four Horsemen are getting ready to release a great looking black cable knit shawl cardigan any day now.

USS Navy Sweater by Warehouse

USS NAVY SWEATER 01Free & Easy have paired up with Warehouse for another great piece this fall. I know, it's a mind blowing garment to look at laying flat on a white background. But try to image the peak of a ruffled collar poking out of the high crew neck, a tattered shirt tail twisted to the side and blowing out the bottom, a pair of well worn chinos, perhaps reinforced at the knee, along with a bit of stain from swabbing the deck or polishing the brass finishings on board. Maybe a nice pair of mocs, deck sneakers or a knit cap to top it off and the picture is nearly complete. I know you're feeling far away from this blog right now, but let's bring it back to reality – this USS Navy Sweater is made from 100% wool by Warehouse in Japan, just for Free & Easy's Rugged Musuem, and that's just where you can find it. — USS NAVY SWEATER 02USS NAVY SWEATER 03USS NAVY SWEATER 04
