W-Taps BC Work Trousers

I'll admit it, I fell victim so some fanboy-esque admiration yesterday. I was flipping through an old issue of i-D and saw a spread of Tet looking cool as hell as per usual. The guy just oozes with style in my opinion and his definitive taste shines through with W-Taps. These BC work trousers are a good example. Three pieces of exterior branding on a pair of pants probably shouldn't work but it does. Everything is placed where it should be. Aside from the great details like small side cinch, and slit pockets with tab buttons, the colour and cut are just what I've been looking for this fall (albeit these are from spring). Navy chinos are near impossible to find and I love the slightly baggier shape of these with their tapered legs and front pleat. They've got that '50s look to them, one which I'd happily embrace with some more contemporary pieces. available at The-Glade

Vans by Van Doren

The Vans brand has had quite the history. It's always been something that I've had around and I know many of you have had a pair or two yourself. The days of Vans being made in the USA and sold out of the same building they were made in are long gone, but this video featuring Steve Van Doren sheds light and showcases some great footage on the old days at Vans. They show the process and construction of the pure crepe rubber as well as some of the four track stitching on the old Authentics. I've personally had a bit of a resurgence in Vans in my everyday wardrobe which has sparked my search for a few made in USA pairs. The shoes are so classic and the way they captured a culture and movement is pretty special. The video is definitely worth a watch and if you're like me, it will make you jump on eBay and look for some vintage Authentics. Link Vans | Van Doren

Sandinista | Quarter Master Corps

Sandinista is another mystery brand for some of us. While a lot of the collection is designed in Vancouver by Vince Cook, the brand is only available in Japan as far as I can tell these days. With a very nicely shot fall look book, some stateside retailers might want to take note. The Japanese inspired collection is full of great looking wool coats, cleanly designed pants and some great accessories including scarves and a very nice boot in a couple colours. The styling for the shoot is fairly solid but I really love the texture and photography - it can really pull the idea of a collection through much nicer than product or studio shots.

Mountain Research Anorak

The pull over anorak jacket isn't always easy to come by. I've been particularly wanting one in red or yellow lately and Mountain Research may have answered the call. Their beautiful outerwear range is quite extensive but it's this simple piece that caught my eye. I think the red is a really nice colour and I am a fan of the elastic wrist bands. The tonal arm colour is also a nice touch and gives the jacket just enough to make it feel unique. I would ideally wear it under a casual sport coat or maybe a duffle coat. It's definitely a good piece for layering in the foul weather of the fall but can easily be a top outerwear choice come spring.

INVENTORY ITEMS: An Introduction

Often times there’s a specific item missing from your wardrobe and you just don’t feel right until it’s yours. At Inventory, we find there are certain classic, well made products that we feel we need but they just don’t exist. By working with carefully selected designers and manufacturers, we are able to make our perfect items. With a focus on time honoured traditions, impeccable craftsmanship and attention to detail, we set out to compile a limited run of Inventory Items. We have done five collaborations this fall resulting in Items 001-006. It's been a learning process with each piece the end result has come to fruition just as we pictured it. The items will release through the fall at different times but there are already a couple available in the Inventory Stockroom. We'll be featuring individual items both in print and online to showcase the people and stories behind the products.

Woolrich Woolen Mills Cruiser Chambray

I'm a big fan of all of the chambray shirting by Engineered Garments and Woolrich Woolen Mills so it's no surprised I've made note of most of them this season. The Cruiser chambray shirt is another simple and easy to wear shirt that looks great. The colour is great and I usually prefer my chambray with white stitching and white buttons. The nice bar tacks and button flap pockets on the chest have small cotton pockets on the inside keep things organized. Another thing Daiki has perfected is the size of the collar on his designs. I think he has just the right ratio across the board on his BD shirts to the work shirts - where many other designers or reproduction pieces just don't feel right on me. The slightly different pockets, curved back yoke and tab button collar are enough to make me want to add it to the chambray collection this fall.

Upholstered Eames Side Shell Chair

I don't usually write about much other than clothing, but there are certain pieces, products or things that I feel I connect with even if I don't know much about them. Legendary designer Charles Eames is responsible for some of the most recognizable seating tools out there, and they just happen to be some of my favorite as well. I'm really drawn to the simplicity and clean design, especially showcased with the shell chair. Beyond the beauty of the chair, I've become addicted to browsing Sit and Read Furniture for the really great curation of items. The worn wooden floors and soft light are perfect settings for the well designed and well used furniture featured and for sale. I'm starting to think about a new office space so a blog shop like this is the perfect inspiration.

Hobo Magazine No. 11

It's been a bit of a wait this time around but the bi-annual magazine have pulled things together for their 11th issue. The latest offering features Ethan Hawke and/or Sonic Youth on the covers as they continue to choose off key celebrities for their cover story. I haven't been able to scoop the latest issue but I will hunt one down this weekend. The magazine is from Vancouver and it's one of the more beautiful publications in the world. With an excellent use of photography and white space, it was definitely something that influenced me when starting h(y)r collective. The distribution seems to be growing and thanks to Hobo's new website, it's much easier to find a local retail outlet. You can also snag back issues from Hobo on their new site which I always find nice. The copies usually go fast so at the very least find a copy to browse through.
