Nigel Cabourn for Eddie Bauer Canadian Vest

01

Images

—01. 5.5oz waxed poplin outer.
—02. Made in Canada.

Words

This is perhaps the standout piece from Nigel Cabourn's first season working with Eddie Bauer. The Canadian Vest has a great fit and four well placed pockets. The lightly waxed Moss Green outer offers both versatility and practicality, and the Second World War Talon zipper is a nice additional touch. In a slight tweak from the standard option, we've also removed the hood and the snaps from around the collar to give the exterior an especially clean and classic appearance.

Sassafras Trug Fatigue Pants

01

Images

Words

Sassafras has added a new pant to their strong arsenal this fall. The Trug Fatigue pants offer a similar utilitarian functionality and aesthetic, while the olive drab tone gives them a classic military feel. I like the cargo pockets being higher on the leg, which I find makes them a bit easier to use and offers a subtle change in the look.

Waste(Twice) Safari Shirt

01

—02. 100% Cotton, Made in Japan.

Words

Superdenim have just recently received they're European exclusive delivery from Waste(twice). While quite a small selection is being offered, largely due to the tragic events that unfolded in Japan in March, the Safari jacket is definitely something I'd be eager to see in the flesh. It's boxier fit looks appealing, and it would surely look great worn as an overshirt above something striped, or something blue. While admittedly quite a light colour and weight for the winter season, an immediate purchase would certainly result in some nice layering options and colour palettes during the more forgiving fall months ahead.

Woolrich Woolen Mills for Inventory

01

Info

—01. Woody Shirt & Cruiser Shirt.

Words

This project was inspired by a feature about Woolrich Woolen Mills we did for the fourth issue of the magazine. The story focused on Daiki Suzuki, the brand's designer for the first ten seasons, and Mark McNairy, his successor. Following on from that we decided to make two special Woolrich Woolen Mills pieces - the Cruiser Shirt from Daiki's time at the helm, and the Woody Shirt from Mark's first collection. Produced in two weights of navy blue wool, and offset by mother of pearl buttons, the shirts offer a classic aesthetic and showcase what Woolrich is best known for: beautifully made American wool.

Studio D'Artisan Heavyweight Workshirt

01

Images

—01. Extended tab collar.
—02. Chainstitch run-offs.

Words

How many chambray shirts have appeared on this blog at one point or another? Probably quite a few, but in all honesty, a good example seen up close never fails to impress. Which is exactly the case with this Studio D'Artisan version: the fabric is exceptional and the details just right. It's also nice to see a shirt that's a little different from the abundance of other options, and the semi-hidden placket on this model certainly makes for a nice break from the norm.

A Vontade Classic Mountain Parka

01

Images

—01. Blue.
—02. Tan.

Words

Simple lines, classic colours, all the right details. There are quite a few impressive jackets out there right now, as you can probably tell from all the posts I've done highlighting some of them, but this Mountain Parka from A Vontade might just be my pick of the bunch. Perhaps it's for the reasons I listed above, or perhaps it's because I know I probably won't ever get to see one in the flesh, after all: the hardest to find gems always seem to shine the brightest. Red, Green, Tan, or Blue.

The Superior Labor Leather Pouch

01

Info

—01. Soft camel leather and stamp detail.

Words

I'm a sucker for a handy little zip pouch, something for pens, or film, or just to minimize the clutter around my desk, or bag. While I wouldn't say I'm exactly "big on leather" a nicely crafted piece goes a long way in my book, especially if it's something I can see myself using on a regular basis. The Superior Labor make some of the finest small goods around, and the leather pouch above is just one fine example to be taken from their wider, consistently impressive, collection.
