Waste(twice) Submarina Jacket

Words

While the more typical mountain or trail parka seems to be dominating the outerwear scene a bit these days, Japanese brand Waste(twice) have done an interesting variation of a similar jacket. Referencing a vintage fishing jacket, the cut of the Submarina is unique in that the shoulders are seamless. This makes movement in the area stress free and less restricted as well as more weather-proof. The finely woven oil cloth cotton Millerain fabric give it a nice texture and natural drape despite the many pockets. A corduroy lined hood and check flannel lining provide the cherry on top of a much less ubiquitous looking piece of outerwear.

Words

Superdenim have just recently received they're European exclusive delivery from Waste(twice). While quite a small selection is being offered, largely due to the tragic events that unfolded in Japan in March, the Safari jacket is definitely something I'd be eager to see in the flesh. It's boxier fit looks appealing, and it would surely look great worn as an overshirt above something striped, or something blue. While admittedly quite a light colour and weight for the winter season, an immediate purchase would certainly result in some nice layering options and colour palettes during the more forgiving fall months ahead.

These woven jute espadrilles feature a lightweight construction and a rope sole. This current model has not changed significantly since the mid-19th century, making them a casual summer staple. The colours are simple and are accented by a single painted stripe across the front. A strong summer collaboration for these two brands.

Waste(twice) x Lowe Alpine Parka

Words

Waste(twice) have developed a nice selection of collaboration items in the last couple years. Often with a mountaineering feeling, the products also feature performance materials like the Gore-Tex Pro Shell on this mountain parka. I really like the two-tone colour combination here, offering a clean design with interesting details. Both the black and the electric blue are nice, and both are not easy to find.

Japanese brand Waste(twice) look to have another strong collection on their hands. While the brand isn’t one easily accessible for most of us, they continue to grow and thrive in Japan. These are a handful of the spring items that I particularly like.

Waste(twice) Varisty Cardigan

waste(twice) cardigan Waste(twice) was one of the brands we were most looking forward to seeing in Japan. Beyond that, we had a chance to meet with the designers and check out their own shop in Harajuku yesterday. While their collaboration with Mt. Raineer Design Works and their own outerwear were stand outs, it was the varsity cardigan that especially caught my eye. It actually came in another colour in which the body was an off-white and the stripes were red, which I slightly prefer to this one. Either combination, it was a great fitting piece of knitwear that really conveyed the aesthetic better than most I've seen. The winter collection was impressive in person and I do hope to see some English speaking shops pick up the brand in the future.

Waste(twice) Pea coat

waste (twice) pea coat There are so many classic items out there that are essential pieces to a man's closet. Some of them have been perfected years ago and yet new collections continue produce new versions of some of the most iconic items. Waste(twice) have produced a great looking pea coat this fall in the most classic of colours. The tonal buttons and nicely cut pockets keep it simple and the slimmed down cut improve its appeal. One problem I find with most pea coats is the size of the collar. Waste(twice) have toned it down with this fall's version and come up with the perfect balance. We're looking forward to visiting Waste(twice) next week here in Tokyo.
