Editor's Essentials

—01. Red Wing Chukka.

Words

Every season, or year, there are a few pieces that I tend to wear all of the time. These three items are pretty standard for me to be wearing 5 days a week lately. The Red Wing chukkas were tough to figure out my sizing originally, but now that they are broken in, they've quickly become one of my favorite pairs of shoes. The color is great, the weight and silhouette is nice and they go with pretty much everything. Everything, meaning oxford BD shirts and 12 oz sweatshirts. I consider the Engineered Garments Workaday oxfords and Real McCoy's sweatshirts both best in class, so I have a hard time wearing anything else.

Acquired: Engineered Garments Tailored Down Vest

01

—01. Made in Canada.

Words

On our recent trip to New York there were only a couple of items I had my mind set on. The first was some socks from Uniqlo and the second was the tailored down vest by Engineered Garments. I remembered liking it when we saw the collection last January, but it was quickly edited from our shop order. When they started popping back up in stores this fall I didn't want to miss out again. At first the brown color caught my eye, but the blue in person was too good. The cut of the vest is pretty nice and it feels great. It's a bit puffier than I had hoped so wearing it under a lightweight jacket isn't as good as I thought. Overall I'm quite happy with it though, and I don't have to worry about kicking myself in a few months.

Double Corduroy

Words

While I am a fan of Fantastic Man and I think it's a beautifully designed publication and brand, I don't often find much personal inspiration from the fashion featured. However, today's Daily Recommendation is a great look featuring some of my favorite brands, and combining a couple of corduroy pieces. The double corduroy maneuver is a tricky one and it could easily go wrong, but I like how they kept it simple with a clean crew neck sweat. Now, for the choice of footwear...

Engineered Garments Khaki Twill Painter Pants

01

Images

—01. Classic painter pants.
—02. Fine khaki twill cotton.

Words

The painter pant has seen a bit of a resurgence in the last couple seasons. A few brands have used different fabrics and patterns to bring something different to the table, but other than the classics, I think this twill cotton interpretation is one of the best I've seen. It may seem boring, but I think the cut of the Engineered Garments painter pant is perfect and the khaki cotton makes them a very wearable, slightly different option.

Fall Again: Workaday Cords

01

—02. Tan.

Words

It's definitely getting into the heart of corduroy season as the colors of autumn fill the sidewalks and streets. Just in time for the season, The Bureau have received their fall shipment from Engineered Garments, including the Workaday collection. The cords come in five colors, but the olive, burgundy and tan are definitely my favorites. You can't go wrong with the straight leg, colors and details, but make sure you size up if you buy a pair online as they fit quite small.

Engineered Garments Herringbone Fatigues

Words

Sometimes it's the subtleties that are the most exciting. I've probably written about fatigue pants more times than necessary, but the latest version of this Engineered Garments Workaday staple is just too nice not to revisit the subject. The tan cotton herringbone is perfect for the autumn season ahead and though I haven't had a chance to inspect the fabric in person, I can imagine it's well worth the investment.

Engineered Garments Storm Parka

01

—01. Made in USA.
—02. Blanket lined.

Words

This fall sees the departure of one of my favorite EG items: the Field Parka. The clean and classic silhouette has come and gone for the time being, but its replacement is taking the season by 'storm'. The new parka features a blanket wool lining, secure fastening systems anywhere you might need them, plenty of pockets and a cotton ripstop shell. Available in both khaki and olive this fall, we decided on the khaki for our shop. The jacket is great value and sure to be one of the season's best outerwear pieces.

Look: From the Stockroom

01

Words

As more and more fall products continue to arrive at the Stockroom, I thought it would be nice to put together a look from the shop once in awhile. We plan on photographing somebody wearing these looks in the future, but haven't found a model just yet. In the meantime, this outfit is simple, comfortable and ideal for the fall. I did have to throw in some socks from J.Press to complete the look, but everything else is currently available from us.
