I’m not used to seeing a Russell Moccasin collaboration with such a well-established American company. I normally have to spend my time digging around online in Japanese select shops to find what unique creations are being commissioned. Filson have created two versions of the versatile PH Boot with water-repellent twill sides in green and tan. They have all the hallmarks of Russell’s handmade moccasin construction and are sure to sell out fast, reaching such a wide audience.

Filson have produced one of their most interesting and useful collaborations this season with Magnum photographers David Alan Harvey and Steve McCurry. The capsule collection includes a selection of bags which were made in Filson's US factory. Designed specifically with photography in mind, they feature water-resistant fabrics, adjustable padded compartments, interior laptop sleeves, and ergonomic straps on the backpacks.

Legendary Pacific Northwest outfitters, Filson, have recently opened their New York City outpost in NoHo, and the 1800 square foot space is a continuation of their rugged heritage. The design concept encapsulates their traditional aesthetic, utilizing reclaimed wood from Brooklyn's Domino Sugar Factory, a 42 star flag nodding to their Washington origins, and a living plant wall from Green Fingers' founder Satoshi Kawamoto. The new location offers a selection of Filson's signature luggage, leather accessories, apparel and iconic outerwear, as well as being the first store to carry their newly released camera bag collection.

The Cruiser, first produced by Filson in 1914, is in some ways the ultimate overshirt. Made out of a durable 100% wool fabric, it features a generous fit for ease of layering and, in this instance, a two-tone grey and navy body with a plaid flannel lining. It was originally designed for the Pacific Northwest forestry trade, so I'm sure it can withstand a whole range of climatic conditions.

Filson's range of luggage still remains a constant source of appeal despite my often fluctuating enthusiasm for the outdoors. While the line has expanded quite a bit in recent years as new combinations of fabric and colour are mixed together, it's been quite some time since new styles have been introduced. One of which, the large twill carry-on travel bag, features a great silhouette for daily use and can easily hold enough for a week away if need be. The side pockets, 3/4 zip opening and varied straps combine some of the features of two or three of their other bags making it a perfect blend of shape, size and utility.
