Spring Colour from Loftman Coop Umeda

01

Words

It's always a little disorientating to see the first splashes of colour, as the spring collections begin to arrive. Eventually though, those feelings give way to excitement and the realization that warmer climates and brighter clothes are not too far away. Loftman have done an excellent job styling together some of these brighter spring items alongside more muted autumn tones, as a lead-in to the season ahead.

A fall classic, Filson's tin cloth garments are always useful, especially in the North West. This hat in particular is a good item for keeping the rain off while looking good.

Filson Canvas Cruiser Jacket

01

—01. Made in USA.

Words

"The Cruiser Jacket is perhaps the most iconic Filson style, which has shaped all other workwear jackets since it's release nearly 100 years ago. A tough, durable jacket constructed from heavyweight canvas, with a depth of utility features."

The Jacket just plain looks great. If you want an authentic hunting style jacket, made in the USA, you don't need to look much further than Seattle based Filson.

Filson, Seattle

Filson-4 Last week Owen and I made a trip down to Seattle for the day to visit a couple of factories and visit a few shops. The weather was great and the drive was smooth except for a car tire that flew off about 5' from Owen's face. Fortunately we were able to schedule a last minute meeting and tour at the Filson factory in Seattle. It's probably the most legendary hunting outfitter in the world, and for good reason. The factory was filled with custom rugged twill, heavy Melton wools and fresh cow hides straight from the tannery. Teresa was an excellent tour guide and had the floor running very smoothly. The whole operation from design, production, and inventory checks to the retail floor was very impressive. For having so much going on in the USA as well as strong markets in Japan and a recent growth in Europe, the Seattle based company seemed very much in control. We also had a chance to peak at some of the new models and use of fabrics coming for the Fall–Winter season including some great wool whipcord and lighter weight twill outerwear. It was also one of my first chances to take some photos with my Canon F-1. I didn't have a lot of film left in the day but I was happy with a few of the shots. Thanks very much to Amy and Teresa for your time. It's definitely worth a visit to the store if you're in Seattle. — Filson-5Filson-2Filson-3Filson-1

Filson Rugged Twill Shopper

Filson rugged twill shopper 01 It seems to make some sense that Filson has a made in Italy range that can only be found in Japan, but it doesn't quite make sense as to why these shopper totes aren't available around here. They are made in the USA as far as I can tell and look great. I like both Filson's canvas totes and wool bags, so this is a nice marriage of the two fabrics. The rugged twill shopper is a bit more ideal for trips to the grocery or an afternoon excursion around town. The size is easy to pack up into another bag but can pack enough to be useful. I quite like both colour options and would happily add one to my arsenal of tote bags. — Filson rugged twill shopper 02

Filson Sportsman Duffle

Filson Sportsman Red The Filson Sportsman bag is not new to the game. It's been a classic go-to for many a man for years. However this special red colourway that was done by the Jean Shop hasn't been to easily accessible until now. I saw the collection of red bags this summer tucked away in the Jean Shop corner at Bergdorf's and instantly my eyes light up. The deep red canvas on the tote and sportsman looked perfect and would no doubt continue to for years to come. Context has managed to scoop a couple of these Sportsman bags this fall and I have a feeling they will be gone pretty quickly. Filson bags will never go out of style and will always look good. Whether you have one in tan or olive, they will always be great - but there's no denying that getting your hands on something a little more special adds to the fun. — Filson Sportsman Red2

Filson Shelter Cloth Bomber

pFILSON1-6002993dt Filson has a couple of web exclusive products up right now in my favorite color of the season - navy blue. This shelter cloth bomber reminds me a little of the EG Wing jacket, in terms of the shape. It's one of the Engineered Garments pieces I've never got overly excited about, but often tried on and still thought highly of it. Filson's short bomber however is just a bit more casual and easy going, or at least it feels that way to me. I like the pockets and the waist band and how the jacket might could offer an interesting layer on top of something a little longer. If you were to wear a light colored Baker perhaps, the lengths could work well in the fall. If not, it's an afford layer at $109, that will look good any time of year.
