In my mind, Yuketen and Russell Moccasin make the best 'moccasin' shoes in the world. The balance between premium materials and design, alongside great quality makes them stand head and shoulders above. While Yuketen's creativity rests mainly with Yuki Matsuda, the outcome of a pair of Russell's is very much in the hands of the retailer - an interesting difference making both brands rather unique and always interesting to follow.

They're back, available in larger sizes, and slightly tweaked for fall. Ryan blogged these back in the summer, and the new colourway has just arrived. Two reasons to buy them: 1. They're a Russell Moccasin, and 2. They have fall written all over them. I've personally found myself cursing the lack of middle-choice winter footwear in my wardrobe recently. I have dry weather options, and wet and snowy weather options, but I don't have that perfect down-the-middle shoe that works well in both scenarios; should you head out in the sun, only to find yourself trekking home in the rain. These shoes are an exclusive make-up for Midland Ship, and I want them. Quite a bit.

Russell Moccasin make a number of great looking shoes, but its one of those brands that really leaves the creativity up to the retailer or collaborator. In Japan, they come up with the best versions of chukkas, oxfords and Bird Shooter boots. These mid height shoes use a great mix of suede and leather to combine shades of brown in a very nice way.

Russell Moccasin are one of the best footwear makers around, but unless you go to them directly, their shoes are very hard to find. There are so many good models in Japan, and it's only since Nepenthes opened in New York that any interesting models have been made available here. These short boots use a classic Vibram sole and don't look totally unlike our Yuketen collaboration, which definitely isn't a bad thing.

In the grand scheme of things it's a fairly minor milestone but this is my 100th post. With that in mind, I thought I'd put together an outfit using some of the things I've written about over the last few months. Although some of them are no longer available, they should still provide plenty of inspiration. Looking back, there was any number of possibilities but I particularly like the way these items interact. There might be a variety of colours and textures involved but there's a simplicity about their combination. It's an outfit that very much reflects my own personal taste and in keeping with the overall tone of h(y)r, I've always written about things I love. I've tried to provide as much depth and personal insight as possible, focusing on things I have direct experience of or a genuine admiration for. I hope you've enjoyed my contributions so far.
