As you've probably noticed the new Inventory website is now up and running. The change over went quite smoothly but there will still be a couple more changes as we finish the last of the updates. The updates will continue as usual with daily posts, we will be updating the Features section fairly regularly and we've updated the Stockroom with some new products. Take some time to click around and explore the new layout. Aside from the content, we've updated our contributors page as well as our stockists for the magazine.

Coming Soon: INVENTORY 02 Spring–Summer 2010

Words

It’s been a very compact and exciting spring so far this year as we have new developments in all aspects of Inventory, but our main focus has been the production of our second issue of the magazine. Finally our Spring–Summer 2010 issue is going to the printers and we are excited to present the two covers for the upcoming offering. We feel the new issue not only met the standard of our initial launch but perhaps exceeded it with a more diverse range of content, some great new contributors and an additional 30 pages. Featured in our spring issue are Margaret Howell, The Real McCoy’s, Beams, White Mountaineering, Our Legacy, Wm. J. Mills & Co., Unis, New Balance and several other fascinating people, brands and stories. The issue will be available to pre-order through the Inventory Stockroom next week and will be shipping and hitting shelves in early/mid-May.

INVENTORY Editors by Jake Davis

Last week in New York we happened to be in between appointments when Jake messaged me to come drop by for an interesting video project he was putting together. Generally all of us at Inventory like to stay on the other side of the lens but Jake had a simple concept that felt fresh and included a great list of subjects. He was kind enough to include the Inventory editors; Simon Roe, Owen Parrott and myself. The Test Shots are leading off the series that will play out on Jake's blog and be viewable in HD in a much bigger format at Jake's Vimeo page. The videos offer a genuine glimpse into the people and their personalities and really take the idea of a street style photograph to a new place. Thanks again to Jake for including us, enjoy. —

Happy New Years from Inventory

Sorry we've been a little slow on the Updates the last couple days, but we've been trying to re-charge our batteries, spend a little time with our families and friends and gear up for a big 2010. I was excited for 2009 and rightfully so – it was a great year for us at Inventory. We've made some great friends and enjoyed an incredible amount of support and we can only hope it continues into the next year, and decade for that matter. We'll be back in action on the blog later today, along with a new ReViewed coming soon and lots of exciting news slated for the first quarter of 2010. Thanks again to everyone.

Stock Thoughts: Happy Holidays

Beams+ As the year comes to an end, I want to say thank you to everybody for reading and supporting Inventory magazine, and h(y)r collective previously. It’s been a fairly fast couple of years and we continue to learn and progress everyday with a goal of constant improvement and providing genuine content on things we personally care about. I’m not sure if everyone pays attention to the comments, but there have been some mixed reviews on our writing, direction and depth of insight recently – some rude, some constructive and some very positive. I'd personally like to say thank you for the latter two - regular feedback is important and definitely helps as we move forwards. We began blogging because we thought there were a lot of great people, brands and products out there; many of them weren’t getting the attention they deserved, and we thought we might curate the products in a fresh way with our own perspective and insight. Whether that comes from Japanese online shops or factories down the street, the common theme is products that we like. We never thought we should do it to make money, to get free clothing or that one day we could work with the brands we loved. We did it because we love doing it, because we were already searching for and putting these things together everyday – why not document that and share it? I do apologize if some of the posts have felt like impersonal press releases recently. That's something we really don't want - a personal perspective is something we always want to get across. We are really busy on a daily basis now and perhaps I’ve neglected to put in the time each post deserves. I will personally make every effort to produce the best, most genuine, and insightful information I can everyday. That’s really all I can do. I’m not looking for sympathy against the haters, I just wanted to make it known that Simon, Owen and I are doing this because we love it, and will continue to do it for the same reasons as we started, hopefully you’ll continue to read and follow us into the new year with open minds, positive ideas and continued support. — Thanks again to everyone. We’ll be back in blogging form on December 26th with a look at the Engineered Garments Spring–Summer 2010 collection. Happy holidays from Inventory.

INVENTORY @ Roden Gray

Inventory-in-RG 01 This Friday we launched INVENTORY magazine at Roden Gray in Vancouver. First off we'd like to thank everyone that came out for the drinks, chat and support. We had a great turn out and a few people left with some new reading material fortunately. Aside from a nice evening with our wonderful hosts at Roden Gray, we also had a shop-in-shop set up that will continue to occupy the corner in the Vancouver boutique. Along with the official launch of Volume 01 Number 01, we also launched our fall collaborations with Inverallan - including the shawl neck cardigan and knit caps. They knitwear is only available at Roden Gray until next week when we launch it in the Inventory Stockroom. Of course our Bucks, ties and Duluth Packs are on hand at the moment too. So, if you're in the area, it would be great to see you down at the shop while we're still there. Thank you again to everyone who came out and we look forward to the release of issue Number 02, just give us a few months. — Inventory-in-RG 02Inventory-RG Party 03Inventory-RG Party 06Inventory-RG Party 01Inventory-in-RG 04Inventory-in-RG 05Inventory-RG Party 02Inventory-in-RG 06Inventory-RG Party 05Inventory-RG Party 07Inventory-in-RG 03

INVENTORY in Japan

Inventory-Japan 01 As many of you know the Inventory team assembled in Japan for a 10 day trip which came to an end this past weekend. What some of you may not know is that it was actually the first time Owen, Simon and I had all been in the same place at the same time. It was a very good trip overall. We had a list of shops, interviews and meetings and we hit the ground running. The response to our first printed issue was great as we toured the city in search of everything and anything. We got some great content for our spring–summer issue and managed to fit in some shopping here and there. My personal favorite shops were The Army Gym, Nepenthes, Engineered Garments, Visvim, Beams Plus, B Yoshida, Rugged Museum and Neighborhood. The aesthetic and atmosphere at each shop was incredibly well put together and really communicated the brands better than I've seen at home. It was definitely an eye opening experience from a retail perspective. The pure volume was unreal and was displayed impressively at Isetan. Special make ups Alden, brands we'd never seen before, shops we've only seen online and getting to visit the HQ of some of our favorite companies filled my highlight list, as well as some of the items I was able to pick up – more to come on that later. We took as many photos as we could but unfortunately ran out of disk space and batteries a couple times, but here's a few shots documenting our trip to Japan. — Inventory-Japan 02Inventory-Japan 03Inventory-Japan 04Inventory-Japan 05Simon Roe - Inventory-Japan-06Owen Parrott - Inventory-Japan-07Ryan Willms - Inventory-Japan-08Inventory-Japan 09Inventory-Japan 10Inventory-Japan 11Inventory-Japan 12Inventory-Japan 13Inventory-Japan 14Inventory-Japan 15Inventory-Japan 18Inventory-Japan 19Inventory-Japan 20Inventory-Japan 21Inventory-Japan 23Inventory-Japan 17Inventory-Japan 22Inventory-Japan 24Inventory-Japan 25Inventory-Japan 26Inventory-Japan 27

Tokyo, Japan

tokes The INVENTORY team have just woken up in Tokyo after flights coming in from Vancouver and London. Simon, Owen and myself (Ryan) are here for 8 days of exploring, interviews and meetings. We've got an exciting list of things to do including interviews with White Mountaineering and BEAMS in our first few days. We wanted to apologize for a little bit slower than usual action on the Updates, but we will try to keep everyone updated on the shops we visit, products we see and places we go to. We have a laundry list of stores to see but if anybody has recommendations to add to the list, or good restaurants to try, feel free to leave comments. The response has been great regarding our first printed issue as well. They are flying out of the Stockroom so far, and we are adding more stockists to the list each day. More updates on that on our return. Thanks, –Inventory Team
