Look: Winter Ready

01

—01. All items available at the Inventory Stockroom except the J.Press socks.

Words

It feels like winter is around the corner as fall has become a little windier, a little rainier and a lot more chilly. Warm layers and a protective shell are essential, along with tough footwear and solid accessories. There are a lot of sweatshirts and technical jackets on the market this season, but you can't really beat either of these pieces, especially when paired together.

Words

It's the middle of summer and spending the days by the oceanside are feeling slightly more appealing than shopside, well sometimes. I'll be the first to point out that these particular shorts by Woolrich Woolen Mills aren't for surfing, but they are for looking good and feeling the breeze in the heat - they are also on sale at Odin right now.

LOOK | The Other Day

Look - The Other Day Last week in New York I had one item on my hit list and as a timely email came in from a thoughtful reader I was able to find my Newport at a much better price on sale. I really love the aesthetic of a double breasted jacket and I have been wanting to pair it up with a more casual pair of pants since my last LOOK post. The medium fit a bit more slim than expected but in a good way, so it worked nicely with a pair of fatigue pants, bow tie, oxford BD and our lovely Inventory Items Bucks - which are nearing sold out status. It was a tough decision between the navy serge wool and the grey tweed but I decided the grey would be best in terms of the other pieces I already had. It went straight to work as I finally had my nice mix of formal and very casual elements coming together or clashing, depending on your perspective. Either way, I'm happy about the jacket and I'll be wearing it regularly once my missing bag arrives back from New York.

LOOK | Mr. Rugged Formal

Mr. Rugged Formal It's been a couple weeks since I threw together a virtual look, this time I was spurred on by the Engineered Garments Newport jacket. I loved this piece when I saw it last January and I had forgotten about it in the last couple months since I pretty much reached my quota and haven't seen it in many shops. With sales in full force I've spotted the navy version marked down in one or two places. The urge to track down the grey is building steadily, so I thought I would figure out a couple other items I could wear with it. The double breasted jacket is formal by nature so I think these pieces sort of go with it, and against it. Due to the very casual drape of the serge wool, the South 2 West 8 duck canvas pants look great to make the look casual over all. It's kept classy with the Beckman moc toe boots by Red Wing and a simple bow tie and oxford BD combination.

LOOK | Light Rain

Look | Light Rain The weather has been cold and dry lately which really doesn't feel like Vancouver in December, but I'm not complaining. I was starting to get used to the light rain and I know it's not far off again, so when the temperature jumps up a couple degrees and the clouds come back, this is a likely weather cross-over look. The desert boots are a great all season shoe and due to their tough manor and fair price, you really don't need to hold back from giving them a good beating, rain included. The Wolf colourway is one of my favorites and they look perfect with the dark burgundy of the cords. The S.N.S. Herning STARK cardigan is really the main piece of the outfit. I've probably tried this sweater on 3 or 4 times in the last week and I'm going to regret not snagging it if it sells out - I already know it. It fits perfect and has a great weight and colour. I'm a big fan of the collar and feel like it could easily become a favorite sweater. Margaret Howell's shirting was great this fall and there are a number I would have liked to bring home. This soft plaid ties the colours of the look together nicely and is nice for daily wear - and why not bring some reading along. — Drakes Umbrealla SNS Herning STARK Cardigan Engineered Garments Workaday Cords Margaret Howell Plaid Shirt JS Homestead Socks Clarks Desert Boots INVENTORY Volume 01 Number 01

LOOK | Weekend Wears

Look - Weekend WearsWe've had some great weather in Vancouver this week. The sun has peaked out again for the most part and the temperature has been quite pleasant. It's made for a little break from rain coats and umbrellas and it's nice to not worry about what shoes to wear. Saturday was particularly nice as Owen and I rolled around town to a couple vintage furniture shops, checked out the soon-to-open Haven shop and of course spent some time packing magazines. Staying warm and comfortable are usually wardrobe requirements, but even more so on the weekend, so it was turtleneck time for me. I've had the most luck with the high necked knit when layering it over a flannel and letting the collar poke out the top and bottom for a nice bit of pattern and texture. I've been wearing the Workaday cords most days of the week in one colour or another, so that isn't much of a surprise. Since the sun has been missing there has been no time for no socks, but today was just warm enough to slip the peanut grizzly Quoddy's back on, and how good they feel. The red Inverallan cap was thrown on when the sun dipped below the horizon and there you have a handful of clothes I wore on a Saturday.

LOOK | An Unlikely Pairing

Look- Unusual mix While each of these items have probably already been seen on this blog, there is always a new way to mix things together and think about how to pair them. I wouldn't usually think of wearing a bow tie with field pants and ring boots, but I feel like the casual BD shirt in white is perfect for the style of bow tie, yet 'ties' in very well with the cargo pants. The heavy cardigan tops things off with a heavy layer and a dark enough tone to make the rest of the look feel ready for a fall day. I don't think this is a look for everyone, but I think it can be pulled off and it could at least be worth trying at home. Getting dressed is supposed to be a fun event, or at least I like to think it is. Stepping outside of the norm, or at least your own norm is a good idea once in awhile. There are often little things we might not have thought we'd be happily wearing today, but we are, and it's because we gave them a try and it worked – it lead to something else. So be it a bow tie or a pair of ring boots or an unlikely combination, it's all about the calculated risk and fun of it. — The Items Inverallan for Inventory Cardigan Alexander Olch for Inventory Bow Tie Woolrich Woolen Mills Upland Shirt Woolrich Woolen Mills Field Pants Quoddy Ring Boots Wm J Mills Tote Bag

LOOK | Another Fall Day

Look - Another Fall day There isn't anything too special about this outfit, but it is perfect for fall. We have seen a definite temperature drop here in Vancouver so layers of wool are essential. I'm just as fond of the red and black lumberjack as anyone and still haven't acquired a Filson Mackinaw – but the hankering has been kicked up a notch lately. Engineered Garments tab collar broadcloth shirt and wool cardigan are a perfect match and the blue tones go really nicely with the Mountain Research scarf. The South 2 West 8 cords worked nicely with the flap pockets and good buttons, and of course the colours sit nicely with the Alden Indy's from Blackbird. Finished off with our own Duluth Pack collaboration bag and you're set for another fall day.
