Viberg Hiker

While boots can often equal fall for many, the hiker’s time to shine is right about now as the weather starts to turn. Viberg’s version of the boot is one of my favourites. Sure there are cleaner and sleeker options from the likes of Diemme or even Visvim, but the bulky ruggedness of the Viberg staple is more endearing to me. The light brown suede on top of the chocolate sole unit is the ideal hiker combo although a pair of red laces would definitely need to be added. Admittedly I’d probably get them first for the actual outdoors, I could easily find them slipping their way into plenty of urban looks. It’s as simple as fatigue pants and a work shirt. They’re on sale at Superdenim now too.

A.P.C. Striped Pullover

Words

For me Spring is about simplicity and comfort. Clothes that are easy to wear any time of the day and with anything else in your wardrobe. It’s in this department that A.P.C. excels in and this striped sweater is a perfect example. The copper and navy make for a fantastic colour combination that’d go nicely with a lighter shade of pants or shorts. A nice thin weight knit is a great alternative to pull on instead of the usual t-shirt when it gets a little warmer too.

Words

Fresh on the heels of their trunk show with Union LA last week, (Was anyone lucky enough to make it to Chateau Marmont for a custom fitting/bespoke pair of Virgil Boots?) Visvim have recently updated their website with some extremely wise words into the brand’s philosophy which is epitomized by their Folk line. For me personally, it’s this type of mentality that makes me appreciate the brand beyond just the end products. A mentality which has unfortunately become a rarity.

How do we know when a made thing is good? Good craftsmanship makes us happy, so we naturally want to make good things. This holds true whether we manage a brand or design a specific product. It’s practically impossible to innovate a high-quality product in such a short, three-month business quarter. Yet we’re often told the exact opposite. Advertisements claim that new and groundbreaking products have appeared in stores overnight, but this is pure marketing. If we move past these bluffs, we can find sign that hint where we should go next. We can only move forward as long as the process of discovery keeps its momentum, and this cannot happen if there is no meaning for a product to exist.

Look: Spring Walk

Words

With the exception of a few rainy stints, the good weather has continued through the last week. I’ve even ventured out with no sweater and jacket a couple times, trying to coax the sun to come a little closer. I really like the natural tones with a small hit of pattern by this Engineered Garments polka dot belt. The reverse sateen is really a great fabric for the pants as well, and the new Irving trouser suits it really well. Otherwise, it’s nice and simple; a white BD shirt, casual hat to throw on and one of the more peculiar bags from Porter filled with the days essentials – which Simon had made note of a little while back. I also find that each summer I generally have one pair of mocs that take a firm beating, canoe mocs are one of the easiest choices.

I believe these shoes have been featured here before and I believe the general comments were to just buy Clarks. That’s fair enough because Clarks are a great classic staple shoe, and there isn’t much wrong with them. However, a couple of them are covered by Visvim’s version. The all natural crepe soles are definitely nicer, a couple of the colors offered are hard to get from Clarks with the natural colored sole and the playful heel counter offers something a little different, but very wearable. I’m not always a fan of the colored synthetic pieces on Visvim’s shoes, but I really do like the light spring colored dots and I think these would be great to have right about now, unfortunately there are only a couple sizes left at Honeyee.

Words

While we are anxiously awaiting our first delivery from Yuketen, they have just updated their website with a look at the collection and a couple of shots from their Spring–Summer look book. The collection is one of my favorites and includes some friendly faces like the Ranger Moc along with some of Yuki’s classic hand-sewn experiments. The collection is always interesting and never boring. While it’s hard to get a good look at most of the models online, they should be hitting stores over the next month. If you’re looking to pick up just one pair of new shoes for the spring-summer, I would be hard pressed to not pick something from Yuketen.

Tricker’s by Present

Words

Present have just received fresh spring stock of their in-house footwear collection made by none other than Tricker’s. The folks at Present have been working with Tricker’s for much longer than blogs have been around and they continue to lead the way. My favorites from the spring delivery are the low cut derby on the Vibram sole. The colours are rich and are nicely accented by the brass hardware and boot laces.

The Beams collections have begun to release online with a handful of strong collaborations and pieces specifically from the Beams Plus collection. This seasons print catalog looks great again – from the styling to the photography every angle is covered and I’m happy to give you a glimpse into some of my favorite spreads. These looks include a mixture of Beams Plus pieces and other items from their shops. I really love the style, the colour palette and feel of the photos. We’ll be showing you the Beams Plus collection and a couple collaborations later in the week as well.
