Words

I really like how tough and sturdy Tricker's shoes look. I really like long wings, especially in suede, and I really like natural leather soles - it's no surprise I really like these shoes. I have yet to order myself a pair of Tricker's but when I do they will likely be on this sole, in this model, and in a lighter colour of suede, and they won't have white laces.

Tricker's by Present

Tricker's by Present Present have just received fresh spring stock of their in-house footwear collection made by non other than Tricker's. The folks at Present have been working with Tricker's for much longer than blogs have been around and they continue to lead the way. My favorites from the spring delivery are the low cut derby on the Vibram sole. The colours are rich and are nicely accented by the brass hardware and boot laces.

Tricker's Green Suede Kendal

Tricker's Turf Green Suede Kendal For those of you who didn't see The Bureau's spring stock from Tricker's, it's definitely worth a look. While the red brick sole has become nearly as common as boat shoes, I'm not really one to shy away from something I know I like even if everybody and their brother like it too. The red brick sole will always have its place and I feel that it's best paired on a cleanly designed buck in suede. Besides navy and white, olive is probably next on my list. It hasn't been a common pairing for the most part until this spring and The Bureau have commissioned Tricker's to make the latest rendition. I would find myself some olive green laces to put in as soon as possible, but besides that the shoes are perfect. Tricker's are well known to make some of the best shoes available and I'm not surprised to see they've done this lovely combination more than justice.

Tricker's for Engineered Garments

Trickers-EG 01 Fresh of their collaboration shoes with Engineered Garments, the brand that focuses heavily on their made in the USA garments jets over to the UK for another round of brogues. This time they've teamed up with Tricker's on two different models; the multi-tone wing tip and a cap toe brogue. I'm actually not really much of a cap toe fan myself, but the multi-tone and material wing tips definitely look appealing. The use of the pebbled leather, suede and a black and brown actually come together rather well to make a shoe that I can't imagine selling in North America. I suppose that's why they aren't available here and why Japan is the only place that could figure out how to wear them (for the most part) and pay the price to do so. That said, if you like them enough, you can always contact Tricker's and do your own personal collaboration. — Trickers-EG 03Trickers-EG 02Trickers-EG 04

Wing tips for the Holidays

Wing tips First off, I'm a little sorry for the lack of posts lately. Since our re-brand as INVENTORY, we have been trying to keep up with everything the best we can, but with a small team, unfortunately we haven't been able to send our days blogging as much as we'd like. That said, with the holiday season around the corner, the time to dress up a little bit more is here. Dinners, parties and get-togethers are a good time to bring out the leather soled goods and these are a couple of my favorites. No surprises, they are very classic models from the best shoe makers around. The short wing make-up for Blackbird is a sharp choice and works great with many outfits and the dark burgundy is always a personal favorite. The lighter brown wing tip from Trickers is another great choice and it's thick leather sole will give you years of looking good and feeling tough before having to be replaced.

Tricker's Two Tone Saddle Shoe

trickers-saddle-shoe-1When it comes to making custom versions of anything, subtlety often goes a long way. There's always a temptation to do a lot when faced with a blank canvas but it's sometimes better to do less than you immediately think. During my time at Duffer, we always had a good selection of 'made to order' Tricker's in stock. I picked up a few great pairs over the years, some of them very similar to what Junya is doing now. However, it's the simple options that I tend to wear more regularly and The Bureau might well have produced my next pair. Their 'made to order' editions are always very considered. They seem to make just the right amount of changes, ensuring the outcome is interesting but also understated. These saddle shoes are a prime example. I'm not always a fan of the style but the tonal approach they've taken is perfect. The rich shade of brown is beautiful, and the combination of scotch grain and broguing across the saddle and heel adds subtle depth. I also like the Dainite sole. It's practical and a good middle ground between leather and the heavier commando option. Overall, it's a great interpretation of a classic, one that's perfectly suited to regular winter wear and will only get better with age. trickers-saddle-shoe-2trickers-saddle-shoe-3trickers-saddle-shoe-4

Tricker's Woodstock Derby

trickers-woodstock-1The Marron Antique leather finish on these classic derbies couldn't be better. I'll admit that these aren't the most interesting or exciting looking shoes ever made by Tricker's, but the versatility and potential is great. Their simplicity means they're easy enough to wear with a casual winter suit - perhaps a grey wool - and the double leather sole and colour give off a nice casual feeling that works perfectly with denim. There are only a few styles of shoes I feel like I could wear 4-5 days a week and I think these could be one of them. From jeans and a white Tee, to a sport coat and tie - the shoes can play year round in any outfit. They also work well with patterned and colored socks or with the full leather lining you can go sockless. When it comes to buying a pair of Tricker's, it's definitely an investment that you want to get a lot out of. So, while these might look a little dull on their own, you'd be hard pressed to make them look bad with any ensemble and there's no way you could make them look bad on a daily basis. trickers-woodstock-21trickers-woodstock-3 Available at Oi Polloi

Tricker's Burford Boots

For some of our readers in the UK, Tricker's might seem like an old man's brand but a lot of us in North America are more familiar with the brand through it's Japanese market and interesting collaborations, creating a much better stigma as noted in the comments. No matter where you're from or what your initial thoughts on Tricker's is, there is no doubting their high quality footwear and when you can track down a model like this Burford boot, it's hard to say you wouldn't wear these. I know I don't want to wait until I'm 40... These are some of my favorite boots I've seen recently with the tonal soles looking especially nice. I especially would like a pair of brown boots and at 200 Pounds, these aren't too bad of a deal. Although not cheap, the quality and classic style will last years down the road.
