Tender Sunglasses

Words

One defining quality of the British brand Tender is their insistence on utilizing materials found in the natural world. Whether it's their woad or chlorophyll dyed garments, or these sunglasses which are fashioned out of cellulose acetate from cotton pulp, the connection to nature is attractive and proves an interesting detail amongst a sea of similarity. Moreover they are simple and understated, and a pair of sunglasses I'd want to wear.

New Balance M990 TB3

Words

These 'triple black' 990s might not win everyone over, but I'm on board with their monochromatic colour scheme. While light grey is certainly the obvious choice for this desirable US-made style, this version would make for a great alternative.

Words

The Blazer LT is one of the most formal styles in the Veilance collection and this season is the first time we've carried it at Inventory. Due to the perfect fabric choice and the Mesos Blue colourway, we feel it's the best version of this jacket to date.

Words

I've really started to appreciate the usability of technically inclined outdoor gear for those instances when you are caught in the elements and need to rely on the details inherent in forward-thinking design to keep your haul dry. The resin coated water-repellent fabric and waterproof zipper used on this daypack will certainly make sure of that, while a very practical asymmetrical opening on the front makes getting into your pack a whole lot easier too.

Weekend Listening: Yoshi Wada – Earth Horns with Electronic Drone

—02. Released on EM Records and Omega Point.

Words

Earth Horns with Electronic Drone is a mesmerizing release from the succinct catalog of veteran musician and sound installation artist, Yoshi Wada. Released in 2009 on the Japanese labels EM Records and Omega Point, the recording of a near three hour performance from 1974 at the Everson Museum of Art in Syracuse, New York predates his previous three releases. Wada and three co-conspirators hold hypnotizing sustained tones on their 'earth horns,' anchored by an ever-present synthesizer drone played by a fifth member, Liz Phillips. This is early ritualistic drone music that serves as a time capsule of the 1970s experimental scene and foreshadows the sound of many contemporary bands. The three LP version contains the full 162 minutes of music and is lavishly packaged in four-colour printed 12 inch inner sleeves. This is a really heady listen that should appeal to any fans of early Terry Riley, Tony Conrad or the Taj Mahal Travellers.

Adidas Rod Laver OG

Words

Adidas' Rod Laver model has always seemed like one of the perfect pairs of sneakers to me, released as the signature shoe of the Australian tennis player of the same name. They have a little more going on design-wise than the Stan Smith, Gazelle and Campus but still retain a simple, clean look that is the hallmark of the Adidas Originals footwear line.

Takashi Kumagai, founder and designer of Naissance, has recently opened his own store in Tokyo under the name Wind and Sea. We heard him talk about the concept when we interviewed him for our eighth issue, but now his vision has come to fruition. Featuring a variety of vintage items, homewares and a large selection of Naissance, the store is an interesting addition to the ever-evolving retail landscape of Tokyo.
