Everyday Life Books

Info

—01. China Granite Project II, by Max Lamb.

Words

Apartamento recently expanded their printed matter offering to include the first in a planned series of book releases: China Granite Project II, by the British designer Max Lamb. The book documents a collection of furniture produced by Lamb in 2010 using an igneous granite known as Sesame Black, which is native to the Fujian Province in China. The book itself is both beautifully fabricated and interestingly designed, and I'm sure will be as eagerly anticipated as each new issue of Apartamento.

Spring Look

01

Words

We just had our one-year anniversary of the Inventory Stockroom this past weekend. We decided not to make a fuss about it, but we're still happy to have had a fairly successful first year of brick and mortar retail. We appreciate the support from everybody online, overseas and in Vancouver and look forward to a few more years in Vancouver, and hopefully even somewhere new within the next year or two.

Words

By now I'm sure everyone has read most of their way through our latest issue of Inventory. Luckily we've got some new reading and viewing material just in time. The latest issue of Apartamento just landed in Vancouver, along with 2nd and Monocle. The everyday interiors magazine is especially nice to look at and read through, featuring Bruce Benderson, Masha Orlov, Zoe Bedeaux, Kenny Scharf, Ola Rindal, Juergen Teller and an everyday food supplement.

Apartamento is one of the best magazines out there today. It's one of my favorites and I was pretty excited to get a chance to contribute to the latest issue, although it's a small piece. It has just been released and we received our shipment of copies yesterday. It's their biggest yet, and on the first couple of flips through, it's yet another beautiful offering from the interiors publication. With features on Carl Johan De Geer, Paz de la Huerta, Leon Ransmeier and 6a Architects, there is a lot of reading to do and great photography to look at. As usual, it won't be in stock for too long.

The current month should prove to be a good one for new issues of good magazines. While ours has finally started hitting shelves and shipping out, Apartamento has finished up their latest effort as well and we are anxiously awaiting its arrival. The magazine has gained a strong following and for good reason. It's interesting, well designed and features some great photography. It should be available by the end of November.

Words

While it seems more and more common that some of today's best magazines are closely linked to design studios, consulting firms, and creative leaders in other fields - it is still interesting to see how these new business models have evolved. One of our favorite publications, Apartamento, has recently released their 5th issue. It's been a success around the world, but it's not surprising once you visit the title's related company, Folch Studio. With an impressive array of design work from the young team, they have designed multiple publications, websites and ad campaigns. It's definitely these sort of companies that are making modern creative agencies more interesting.
