Words

It's the middle of summer and spending the days by the oceanside are feeling slightly more appealing than shopside, well sometimes. I'll be the first to point out that these particular shorts by Woolrich Woolen Mills aren't for surfing, but they are for looking good and feeling the breeze in the heat - they are also on sale at Odin right now.

Woolrich Woolen Mills Explorer Hat

Words

The bucket hat by Woolen Mills is one of the best out there. The shape and size make it easy to wear and they always offer a great variety of fabrics and colours. One of the more interesting versions this spring had slipped under my radar until the recent update by Tres Bien. The floral pattern is subtle enough to wear, and colourful enough to be ideal for the summer.

Words

In Daiki's last collection for the Italian licensed Woolrich Woolen Mills, he explores elements of classic mountaineering through certain fabrics and styles we've come to expect from the Japanese/American designer. At the same time, he also adds something new and interesting to each piece via the styling and the subtle details that reflect his own personal tastes. We have a while to wait before the collection arrives in stores, but the first look definitely offers something to look forward to.

In My Bag

01

Details

—01. Wm. J. Mills & Co. tote, Louis Vuitton Passport holder, Canon F1 35mm, Woolrich shorts, The Real McCoy's army hat, Ray Ban Clubmasters, Saint James socks, Papermate pens, Apartamento, HUGE, Moleskin, Muji card holder (with cards inside), iPod, Blackberry & Malin+Goetz moisturizer.

Words

Bringing back the ‘In my Bag’ post once more, we recently shot some articles for our spring issue and each of us took photos of our ‘bags’. Some things are in there every day and somethings aren’t, but most of them are mine and get used regularly. The whole concept of the bag posts was to offer insight into people’s personal tastes and how the things they find important or at least aesthetically pleasing. There probably aren’t many surprises in my bag other than maybe my passport holder and the lack of something by Engineered Garments, but each thing serves its purpose and looks fairly nice, especially those Papermate pens.

Woolrich Woolen Mills Ricon Pullover

WWM Ricon Pullover Taking a nice bit of inspiration from brands like Patagonia, Daiki has infused the surfing influence really nicely beyond the beach shorts and printed short sleeves. This pull over is a great spring piece that definitely lands on the casual side of the closet. I've been trying it on every couple of days since receiving a box of Woolen Mills samples and definitely would like to have one for myself. Odin is the only shop to receive the full sleeve version that I know of but their prices are suspiciously high I have to admit.

Woolrich Woolen Mills by Monocle

WWM x Monocle -1 It's no secret that the Woolen Mills spring collection is one of my favorites. It's peppered with great pieces from shorts to shirting to outwear. It's not surprising that Monocle and Woolrich have continued their on-going work relationship and have put together a short editorial spread in Monocle's 31st issue. The shoot highlights my favorite piece in the collection, the anorak, along with some others we've previously mentioned. Monocle's styling might not be exactly how I would have done it, but it definitely stays true to their style and the layout looks a good as ever. The type and simple graphic elements let the clothing to shine which is what a good magazine should do ideally. The full menswear editorial also features pieces from Yuketen, Engineered Garments, Post Overalls, Nigel Cabourn and Nepenthes - needless to say it's worth picking up. — WWM x Monocle-2WWM x Monocle-3

Woolrich Woolen Mills Cardiff Parka

WWM Cord jk-1 The Woolen Mills spring collection continues to be one of the most anticipated for me as I am in love with the colour palette Daiki has laid out. Owen just posted the perfectly colour blocked shorts and now I am really into the Cardiff parka which definitely feels within the same vein. The micro corduroy material isn't something I would normal hunt for in a light spring jacket, but it does work here with the nice shades of blue and light khaki. The jacket's simple design and great colours allow for a very casual spring feel that would work just as well with shorts as a nice pair of trousers. This is one of a few items I am on the fence with purchasing this spring, although the pull-over anorak just might beat it out. — WWM Cord jk-2

Woolrich Woolen Mills Essex Short

EssexShort Spring still hasn't even sprung and I know I'm not going to want or need to wear shorts any time soon but this pair has me pining harder than ever for the sun. When summer hits I'm in short pants every day, and I if could only have one pair these Woolrich ones would be them. I'm a big fan of colour blocking in the warmer months but it's usually either terribly executed or in the form of shirts or swimwear. Here on the Essex wedge shorts though it works perfectly. The deep navy block over the tan is a perfect combination and offers a much different and unique look even with something as simple as a white tee and canoe mocs. The front flap pocket is a great bit of extra detail as well.
