Pablo

Words

I've joked around with a few people about who you'd cast for a model if you could get anybody. I think that I would go with Mr. Picasso. Aside from his incredible creative side, he's a pretty cool looking guy. It doesn't seem that easy to find good quality photos of him, but those that I could track down are great. There always seems to be a hint of mischief in his eye, and its hard to go wrong with classic stripes. There is a feeling of confidence about him and the way he carries himself, and his clothes feels strong, yet subtle.

Always Good: Suede Bucks

01

Images

—01. Olive & navy suede bucks.

Words

Mark McNairy could definitely be attributed to, or blamed for, the red brick sole takeover we've seen in the last year and a half. However, come spring time its just a plain good shoe to have. The Gibson model has always been my favorite and in these clean, simple colors you can't go wrong. While these are excellent looking essentials, we also have a new Inventory x McNairy shoe coming early next month to look forward to.

Sale Report: 45rpm

01

Images

—01. Selection of 45rpm items on sale.

Words

There aren't a lot of brands going on sale, that I have particularly been waiting for. But I just discovered that 45rpm have put their winter sale online, and at 50% off, it makes it tough not to look at some of those items that were previously out of reach. The brands use of fabric and texture is really beautiful, so this might be a good chance to pick something up, finally. The only warning I would issue, is that I've heard of cases of addiction once you start...

Essential Small Spaces

Words

I hadn't really read or known much about Terence Conran or his studio until recently. My parents gave me his latest book, Inspiration for Christmas and I've really enjoyed looking through the book. His work with interior and product design is quite legendary, but I've been drawn to his smaller book about small space design. The Essential Small Spaces book features some interesting thoughts, good ideas and beautiful photography.

Engineered Garments Brushed Poplin CPO Shirt

01

Images

—01. Available in khaki, olive and navy.

Words

The spring version of the CPO shirt from Engineered Garments is probably one of the best pieces we didn't buy for our own store. The classic fit, nice fabrics and classic color palette make it very easy to wear and not overly expensive. I think the khaki and olive might be my favorite versions, but the navy is not too shabby either. The shirts have landed in Japan and at Nepenthes, I think, so they should be hitting most western retailers by the end of the month.

Available at Nepenthes

2nd Snap

01

Images

—01. Spread from Snap edition; featuring 'Outdoor style'.

Words

While Free & Easy still is probably the most famous of the Japanese fashion magazines in our little world, 2nd has quickly become one of our favorites. The content is often a bit more focused and sometimes a little nicer put together, but it is their special edition books like the Red Wing version and now the 'Snap' edition that I really like. The latest special magazine features street style shots from all over Japan. Showing shop keepers, random people on the street and a couple designers, it definitely is a great way to see some interesting outfits. Whether inspiration for getting dressed or finding a specific garment, its definitely a great issue to have around.

Sierra Designs x Pendleton

01

Images

—01. Pendleton wool lining.

Words

We've seen a few of the North West inspired brands make an appearance in the western world now, Crescent Down Works and Mt Rainier Design are quickly becoming the standard, but Sierra Designs still seem just beyond reach most of the time. This version of their classic 60/40 mountain parka is made with Pendleton wool, which accents the exterior green nicely and adds something extra in terms of style and warmth to an already great jacket.

Available at Takanna in Small & Medium
