Clarks Cola Desert Boots

Words

Clarks is one of those old companies that often feels they have to reinvent themselves to stay relevant. While the core consumers are usually after classic models in timeless colors and materials, the lack of a wider demand seems to put an end to some of the better options. At least for now these Cola Desert Boots are still available at Oi Polloi. They don't have the dark layer in the crepe sole, but the lack of any sort of patterned lining makes them nearly perfect.

Fall Look 01

Images

Words

Normally I don't get too excited about fall in July, but with the knowledge of the items on their way to Vancouver I can't help it. There are a couple of things I miss in the summer - my Red Wings and knit caps in particular - but there are also a couple of other items I am looking forward to picking up this fall, especially the brushed flannel CPO shirt by Engineered Garments. As you can see here, it's one of those simple pieces that works well with everything. The tones in this outfit are easy and I think this is one of those blog posts where I will catch myself looking exactly like it when the weather cools down enough.

London Shots

Words

I spent just over a week in London at the end of June. In between buying trips to Florence and Paris, Simon and I had a few meetings, visited several retailers and plotted for future seasons. London has been a great supporter of our magazine and with a growing number of high quality retailers and partners I don't see that changing. Any time spent with Mr. Roe is productive so we made the most of our time in the city. Just last week I got a few rolls of film back from my F1 and was particularly happy with some of the black and white shots.

Preview: Mismo Ruck sack

Words

Mismo might not be known for their back packs but it seems more and more luggage collections are trying their hand at the rugged looking ruck sack. Mismo presented their version recently which will be available in their SS11 collection next year. The clean design and high quality materials are no surprise. The interesting hardware and subtle design features make it a definite standout, but you'll have to wait a few months to check them out.

Words

It's the middle of summer and spending the days by the oceanside are feeling slightly more appealing than shopside, well sometimes. I'll be the first to point out that these particular shorts by Woolrich Woolen Mills aren't for surfing, but they are for looking good and feeling the breeze in the heat - they are also on sale at Odin right now.

South 2 West 8 Fall 2010

01

Images

—01. A snow-swept setting

Words

Classic outdoor detailed modern fashion wear. That's the concept of Nepenthes' other brand South2 West8 is and their lookbooks always underline it. For me it's more of a Fall brand so this collection is a little more exciting than their last. In some nice brown and natural tones mixed in with darker greys and blacks, the collection makes good use of wool. Many of the looks have a good texture about them without overbearing details. I'm really liking their camouflage pattern as well as the band collared shirt.

LOOK | Outdoor Summer Nights

Images

—01. Enjoying the outdoors
—02. Nice palette with comfort & utility

Words

Sunny summer days bring out the nature lovers in all of us and this photo I saw on my internet travels today reminded me of a long summer day spent hiking and camping. It provided the inspiration for this above look. The shorts and shirt (from Polo and Chimala respectively) are cool and light enough in the heat but are still durable and the boots provide sturdy footwear for exploring the outdoors. The hat keeps the rays off the face, and a pocket square is handy for wiping the sweat from your brow. When the sun sets and you're gathered round the campfire, you can't beat a good flannel.

Buying: Spring-Summer '11

Words

While we are patiently awaiting our first fall-winter deliveries, Simon and I are in New York finishing up our buying for next spring. Our brand list is small and we plan to keep the selection of items we buy well edited and curated in a way that compliments our brand as well as our own personal tastes. Daiki Suzuki is one of the people who makes this quite difficult as the collection is so large and it's one we're particularly fond of. We were fortunate enough to see the Engineered Garments SS11 offering in Florence last month and again in New York yesterday. We've made our final edit, and as fall approaches, we're already excited for next spring.
