While I wasn’t sure it was even possible, but the Unis flagship store on Elizabeth St. in New York managed to get even more welcoming this past Thursday. As we mentioned last week, our friend Kyle Garner from Sit and Read Furniture teamed up with Unis to re-fit their Nolita home base. The combination of left-over Unis fabrics and Kyle’s classical furnishings have resulted in a perfectly unassuming interior. Clean lines and a great arrangement for a nice open space and great garments; it’s what a clothing store should look like.

Sit & Read at Unis

On April 22nd a couple of our friends are getting together in New York. The Unis shop on Elizabeth St. will welcome Sit & Read Furniture’s Kyle Garner in to furnish parts of the store with his collection of vintage pieces. The combination of the space, the Unis brand and Kyle’s taste is definitely a great marriage and it should keep the shop even more interesting and fresh looking beyond the already strong spring collection from Unis. It also turns out that our Spring–Summer issue of Inventory magazine, which comes out at the end of the month, features both Unis and Sit & Read Furniture. To top it off, one of our most valued contributors, Ken Tisuthiwongse has photographed a couple of looks for the collaboration and to showcase the Unis spring items.

Unis Gio Shorts

More shorts are starting to arrive in shops in preparation for summer and another great looking pair come courtesy of Unis. Nomad have just received some stock from the New York brand including the Gio chino shorts and pants, in a couple of classic summer colors. These would be extremely easy to wear in the summer and assuming they are as good as the Gio pants, the fit will be perfect.

Unis Chinos & Cords

The New York based collection Unis has been making a strong comeback over the last few seasons. While operating in their own little part of New York, the collection is designed and manufactured only a few miles from its Soho shop. This season the collection included a refined take on their classic 'Gio' chinos and cords in some great colours. We were able to check out a couple pairs recently and put them to straight to heavy use. The chinos come in a couple colors but I personally like the dark khaki and the ideal year-round weight of the cotton. The cords are about a 12-wale thickness, which is fairly fine, and are offered in navy and black. The navy cord is a tough pant to find, especially with a such a good, refined slim fit as these Unis offerings.  Neither of the pants come cheap, but they both look and feel great. We'd definitely recommend them to anybody looking for a slightly tapered, more narrow leg and a quality product made in the USA. Unis have just restocked their online shop with both the chinos and the cords. —

Unis Military Classic

It's nice to see that Unis have added online retail to their website since they really don't push their wholesale very hard. Fortunately the brand is now available to those outside of New York. The outwear by Unis is probably their strong point with absolute cleanliness when it comes to design, fabrication and quality. Unis makes their pieces in New York and holds the quality to a high level. This Classic Military M-65 style might be the best version of the jacket on the market. As one I've often looked for, this season again brings an impressive effort from Eunice Lee and her New York based brand. Available at Unis, $495
