—01-04. Denim based products, Made in Japan.

Words

We've only added a couple brands this spring, and I'm quite excited about them. Each are small, and very focused on their specific aesthetic. With a strong background of working with Japanese denim, orSlow have grown to offer a small seasonal collection along with a group of core staples. Fatigue pants, chambray shirts and denim jackets are among the regulars, while more playful fabrics and patterns are done seasonally. We've just received our first shipment from orSlow, and the products are even better than I remembered.

Fatigue Pants

daiki-brutus-fatiguesIt's no surprise I'm highlighting fatigue pants here as they've been showing up on the blog regularly for months now - from both Simon and myself. I feel like they are one of the best looking casual pants I could wear. I love the obvious military reference but with no big cargo pockets, they are much easier to mix into your daily wardrobe and get lots of wear from. Whether you pair them up with moccasins, boots or white bucks - as I plan doing regularly this spring - the fatigue pant is quite diverse and is well worth having on hand. The tough part can be finding a good pair however. Although they don't show up online, J.Crew apparently have a good offering and for the price it's probably thee easiest option. I have their fatigue shorts and am a big fan of those. I personally really like the Workaday version Engineered Garments have made this fall. The sateen twill was a nice fabric choice, but I wasn't in love with it until I saw the version pictured after the link. It was put through a single wash cycle with an unknown chemical to give the cotton a little bit more of a rough feeling. They came out perfectly and you can see them in action in our latest online issue, Fall Edits. Above you can see that Daiki is truly a fan of the pant as well - these are his choice outfits to pair up with his array of army green pants. There does seem to be a similar theme on top, but you can see the aesthetic and casual nature the pants lend themselves to quite nicely. — eg fatigue pantsOrslow fatigues

Orslow Peacoat

orslow-peacoatThe peacoat is a seasonal staple and everybody should have one in their closet. Navy, grey, wool, plaid, waxed cotton, fleece - get them all. I don't find the peacoat is a piece to get excited about most of the time even though it is great and definitely has it's place. Orslow have done well to get me excited for their fall version however. Maybe slightly different than your traditional version, the low exterior pockets, sea fairing buttons and high neck fastening are all looking appealing. The cut of the coat looks perfect and the classic navy color is just what a peacoat should be. There are many a version out there but not many better than this.

Orslow Fatigue Pant

orslow-fatigue-pant-1This fall I've selected just a handful of items I plan on purchasing and hope to stick to it after getting a bit of an out of control in the spring.  A good pair of fatigue pants is one of the things on the list. I had been looking at Engineered Garments' option, or filling the void with the ts(s) cropped version. Now though, these Orslow pants are the front runner for fall. The pockets look perfect - from the flaps on the back to the nicely stitched thigh pockets, which are fairly key in defining the casual aesthetic of the pant. I've also been more open than ever to cinch back details and wouldn't mind adding another pant with the feature to my closet. Besides the details and pretty reasonable price of $170 USD, the pants may actually show up stateside as Orslow has been showing in the US for a couple seasons now. I just hope somebody picked the label up and bought these pants (in this colour) because I need them. orslow-fatigue-pant-2orslow-fatigue-pant-3orslow-fatigue-pant-4

Upper Thigh Cargo Pants

thigh-cargosI have never really been much of a fan of cargo pants at any point in my life. I did have cargo shorts back in the day, but never pants - at least that I wore. Even with Engineered Garments making a subtle cargo pant, I am extremely hesitant to like them at all. I think both the North American stigma as well as the pure look of them will probably prevent me from every wearing any. However. I have noticed a couple pairs of pants in the Japanese market that have a version with relocated pockets. While I would still be hesitant to jump into a pair, I have to say they look a lot more appealing on the model worn with an oxford and rolled up with some boots. I could however do without the white paint spot treatment, but I am definitely a lot less opposed to this look. I'm curious if many folks in the North American market are going to be accepting the style into their wardrobe.
